Ninpu Sentai Hurricaneger is celebrating its 20th anniversary, with Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger following the year after, with new limited-release specials. This release also features a new Ranger form for the Hurricane Red and Abare Red, which are exclusive to the V-Cinema movies. These specials are also joined by the news of new memorial edition releases for both Sentai Ranger teams. Both specials also will include a special item for their gimmick that accesses new exclusive forms.
Ninpu Sentai Hurricaneger is the iconic elemental ninja Super Sentai series, the 26th series of the franchise. The show first aired in 2002 and was adapted by Power Rangers into Power Rangers Ninja Storm during the Disney Era. The team is formed of 6 Rangers, with core three Rangers, the 2 Gouraigers, and a Green 6th Ranger. The main 3 Rangers represented a dominion element including Air, Water, and Earth, with the Gouraigers representing the Lightning element. These are the main component that influences the form of Ninpu art techniques they can use.
Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger followed as the 27th Sentai series with a Dinosaur theme, which only featured 5 Rangers and was adapted into Power Rangers Dino Thunder. Much like Hurricaneger, there are three core Rangers, but black and white Rangers later joined later in the show. The show itself first aired in 2003 but has yet to return since a 10th-anniversary special was never made. This was due to the cast being unable to gather so the anniversary project was canceled.
Ninpu Sentai Hurricaneger 20th Anniversary
The celebration for this iconic Sentai series that uses elemental ninjutsu techniques will be gifting fans a V-Cinema special. A new form for Hurricane Red has been revealed as a feature, known as Oedo Hurricane Red. The 5 Ranger actors of the show will be reprising their roles for the special anniversary, which they previously did for the 10 Years After Movie. A trailer was released as a teaser preview of what fans can look forward to next year.
A new Shinobi medal that is used for the Red Ranger’s new form will also be released, which was revealed in the following trailer. This new Shinobi Medal has the Red Ranger’s Sky logo on it but is much larger than any disc previously seen in the show. This is used in the Morpher for Hurricane Red to become Oedo Hurricane Red, whose new form has a ceremonial style. Here is a better look at the new Oedo shinobi Medal seen in the trailer.
Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger 20th Anniversary special
Another anniversary special was announced for the 20th anniversary of Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger. This show didn’t receive a 10 Years After release like the previous series as some of the cast members were unable to participate. However, for this special event, Aiko Itō has returned to play as Ranru Itsuki, Abare Yellow, despite retiring from acting in 2010. A new form is also premiered in this anniversary special, which grants Abare Red a new form called Super Abare Max. Here is the trailer for the Abaranger 20th anniversary Special released in the following year.
A new Dino Plate also makes a debut, which is how the new Super Abare Max form is activated. As seen on the new suit, the Ranger’s new Dino plate is primarily gold but has each Ranger color of the team. The new form also has fantastic details like the power-up mode they used in the show but also includes a special gold armor with the Rangers colors around it. The Power Rangers version also had a Battlizer form called Triassic Battlizer armor, which was never used in the Sentai but now Abaranger has an equivalent. New Memorial Edition Releases for Hurricaneger and Abaranger
Teaser images have also revealed the main Changers of Hurricaneger and Abaranger as an upcoming release from Premium Bandai. Hurricaneger’s Hurricane Gyro is used by the main three Rangers of the series and includes their personal Shinobi Discs. Abaranger’s Dino Brace is used by the main three Rangers of the series and includes the three personal Dino plates of the Rangers. This release also ties in with the 20th anniversary of both shows, since Abaranger will celebrate the anniversary the following year.
This is an unexpected pleasure to see the news of a 20th anniversary special for Hurricaneger, which can only be described as the most popular Ninja Ranger series out of the three released in the franchise. The brand-new form is the most exciting feature of the show, and it will be incredible to see how much power Yousuke will have. It’s crazy to think that fans never got a 10th anniversary special for Abaranger considering how popular the show was. Thankfully, the Sentai series team has returned and even appears to have revived Abare Killer, who died in the show and appeared as a ghost in a dream in Gokaiger.
It makes sense that the Memorial Edition Morphers will be released as the new Shinobi Medal and Abare Max Dino Plate for the forms will also be out soon. Both are decorated to match the corresponding forms perfectly, but the Abare Max Dino plate represents the whole team rather than just one ranger. Both the revealed Memorial Edition Changers will be great items to collect, especially possible new features and the new items for 20th-anniversary exclusive forms.
Ninpu Sentai Hurricaneger 20th Anniversary V-Cinema Special will be released in 2023, with a Blu-ray and DVD release set for 25th of October 2023. The Physical copy will also come with the new Shinobi Medal that features in the special.
Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger’s 20th Anniversary V-Cinema Special will be released later in 2023, with a Blu-ray and DVD release set for 27th of March 2024. The Physical copy will also come with the new Abare Max Dino Plate that features in the special.
The Hurricane Gyro and Dino Brace Memorial Edition versions will be released by Premium Bandai. These will feature more sounds and effects, show-accurate design, and compatibility with the exclusive attachments featured in the physical releases of the anniversary specials. More announcements regarding the new additions to the line are expected in 2023.
