The A Quiet Place universe is expanding, and the next installment has just landed Lupita Nyong’o.
The news comes to us from Variety, who reported on Tuesday that the actress best known for her role in Black Panther, Us, and 12 Years A Slave would be headlining the spinoff film entitled A Quiet Place: Day One. The academy award-winning actress has been absolutely on fire in Hollywood over the last few years, and landing her for this film is a tremendous win for the Paramount franchise conceived by John Krasinski.
The film will be directed by Michael Sarnoski, who is coming off his highly acclaimed film Pig, which came out in 2021 and starred Nicholas Cage. The film is currently set to release on March 8, 2024. The film is based on an original idea by Krasinski, who directed, starred in, and co-wrote the screenplay for both A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place: Part 2 alongside his real-life wife, Emily Blunt.
Other than the title, which indicates that the film will be a prequel of sorts, little is known about the plot of the film. However, there is a very good chance that this film will not feature the Abbott family at all but will focus on Lupita Nyong’o’s original character during the events of the initial alien invasion.
The film will be produced by Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller via Platinum Dunes. John Krasinski and partner Allyson Seeger will also serve as executive producers.
A Quiet Place: Day One Could Explorer The Origins of the Mysterious Monster
The first two A Quiet Place films were a tremendous success, propelling John Krasinski’s career as a director and creating what many are already calling a modern classic in the sci-fi/horror genre. The film takes place in a post-apocalyptic world after Earth has been invaded by an alien species that hunt via sound. The first two films followed the Abbott family, struggling to survive in this violent and silent world as the creatures invade their family farm.
Outside of a few hints, the true origin of the alien invasion has been left a mystery. A Quiet Place: Part 2 featured a flashback to the day of the invasion, as seen from the Abbotts’ point of view, but continued to tease viewers by leaving many of our questions unanswered.
This spinoff film will surely give us a better look at where the aliens come from, how they took out the planet’s military, and what might be going on in other parts of the world beyond the Abbott’s doorstep. With this in mind, we expect it to be a “bigger” movie from a budget perspective, and with Michael Bay serving as a producer, it’s easy to imagine that we might see a LOT of alien invasion chaos as we follow Nyong’o’s character.
In addition to A Quiet Place: Day One, we know that A Quiet Place: Part 3 is currently planned for release in 2025, and A Quiet Place video game is currently in production as well.
