LucidSound LS50X Review – The Absolute Gold Standard of Gaming Headsets

The LucidSound LS50X Hybrid Gaming Headset is the Gold Standard of gaming headsets.

The LucidSound LS50X Hybrid Gaming Headset is the Gold Standard of gaming headsets.

Audio is an aspect that is often overlooked in gaming. If you sit and think about it, every sound you hear in a game is planned and designed. It is a long, arduous, and meticulous process that brings an incredible depth of emotion to every project. There are few gamers out there who won’t recognize the sound of a mushroom popping out of a block, Sonic winding up his spin, and the gruff and gravel of Marcus Fenix’s voice to name a few of these iconic sounds that live in our minds rent free. On top of that, now games are spatial, we hear the sounds where they are in the world in relation to our character.

Up, down, front, and back, the audio can fully immerse us in the game. This can be done with full home theater setups, but let’s face it, who has the money and space for that? In gaming, it’s usually done with headsets. And the LucidSound LS50X Hybrid Gaming Headset is one of the best to do it. This multi-functional over-the-ear headphone is the epitome of gaming headsets in every aspect. The Audio quality, connectivity, comfort, control, and even battery life, the LucidSound LS50X absolutely excels in every aspect.

LucidSound LS50X Audio

Headphones that don’t sound good are useless. Being able to hear and identify the sound is a crucial function. The LucidSound LS50X Hybrid Wireless and Bluetooth Gaming Headset not only does it flawlessly with wired and Bluetooth connection, it does so with spectacular quality. I test sounds with the opening scene from Iron Man, as it not only goes through numerous different types of sounds, but also plays sounds from directions, giving you a real sense of space. The LS50X not only renders clean, clear, and crisp audio. It has the best sound separation of any headset I’ve used for gaming.

There are a number of other headsets that sound separation very well, but the LucidSound LS50X will have you subconsciously turning to see what you’re hearing. On a more tangible note, the playing of audio from multiple sources and game chats is very disguisable. Plus the added ability to control different source volumes directly with the dials on the ear cups enables the user to find their ideal audio balance. Plus the audio settings are easily changed with the Equalizer button.

They Just Feel Good and Work

In addition to the spectacular audio quality, the ease of use and small touches just make the entire experience spectacular. The LucidSound LS50X’s ear-cup dials and equalizer button make it easy to adjust the audio to exactly how you want it, that’s already better than most wireless headphones and earbuds. It also has the ability to connect wired or wirelessly, with or without an attachable boom mic. The boom mic does greatly increase your audio output/voice quality. However, it does still work very well without it. Unless there’s an unruly amount of background noise, most will find connecting the extended mic unnecessary.

There is also an option to connect to the USB dongle which works great if connecting to a computer without Bluetooth.

In addition to the connectivity options, the LucidSound LS50X comes with a custom carrying case, that also has a dedicated pocket for all of the accessories that come with it: 3.5mm to 3.5mm headphone jack, boom mic, USC-C to USB charging cable, and the USB dongle. Considering the premium quality, it isn’t necessarily a surprise LucidSound would provide a storage case, but it is still a very welcomed accessory.

On top of function and use, they are very comfortable headphones. The drivers and overall weight of the LucidSound LS50X are a bit hefty for headphones. However, once on your head, it is enough to let your know they are definitely being worn, but not to the point where they feel like a weight being carried by your head or ears. Also, I’m not sure if it is the material or design, but ear sweat isn’t a noticeable issue. Your ears will sweat due to temperature and how long you use the headphones, but they will not swear more than you’d comfortably expect.

They are also easy to clean and wipe down. No extraneous nooks or crannies to worry about. The even more impressive feat is being comfortable for a guy who wears glasses and has an 8 ¼ hat size.

The One “Downside”

LucidSound LS50X

Honestly, it’s not really a downside, but you do have to pay for them. That’s the only downside I could think of, and I’m stretching. The LucidSoundLS50X run at an MSRP of $249.99. Which is half the cost of a PS5, but they also easily double the experience of the game. There are a lot of other headsets that will work very well at a noticeably cheaper price. But I have not experienced one that does everything this well. I’ve had great headsets, but the extended/boom mic is built-in. Others could only connect to a hub that would then connect via an optical, and then there’s one that won’t even play audio without a delay.

I’ve never owned a set that does everything this well all in the same headset. That is, until now.

The Gold Standard of Gaming Headsets

Having lost count of the different headsets I’ve used for gaming, it is always a treat to find a set that sounds good and is easy to use. It is a game-changer to find a set that sounds great, and works wherever and with whatever I need it to do and use it for. Gaming, music, movies, podcasting, and preventing me from hearing others on a plane, the LucidSound LS50X Hybrid Wireless and Bluetooth Gaming Headset is truly phenomenal and my new standard for comparison when it comes to gaming headsets

I give the LucidSound LS50X Hybrid Wireless and Bluetooth Gaming Headset a 5/5.
