As we start to put 2022 behind us and look into what the future will bring us, we see 2023 will bring a lot of exciting new additions into the MCU. And though most of them are already in post-production, this upcoming year will also see new projects start to film. 2024 will be just as packed with Marvel Studios extravaganzas, and the latest rumors from Captain America: New World Order simply add more fuel to the fire.
Beware that, while these are considered rumors and could turn out to be false, they could also reveal key plot details for the upcoming film.

THE LATEST CAPTAIN AMERICA: NEW WORLD ORDER RUMORS
The plot of New World Order is currently being kept under wraps by Marvel Studios. However, according to Twitter user @CanWeGetToast, who has been dropping some eyebrow-raising Marvel scoops in recent months, the film will visit the Tiamut island, as set up in Eternals, where Adamantium will be first discovered. It will be the source of an international conflict as countries will soon find it more valuable than vibranium, and will try to claim their part in the precious metal.
It was reported a few weeks ago that Harrison Ford will be joining the film as Thunderbolt Ross, taking over the character from the late William Hurt. Apparently, Ross will be the President of the United States in the film and will be an ally to Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who will also appear in the film as the Director of the CIA, who has a vested interest in the adamantium. Valentina was finally revealed as the CIA director in the MCU in this year’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. This could all be referencing the titled “New World Order.”
Ross and Val will play two of the five rumored antagonists in the film. The Leader, who is returning from 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, will be another one. Notable Marvel Studios insider who goes by the name @MyTimeToShineH on Twitter is saying that a fifth one will be the main villain, and Marvel Studios is looking at Jessica Chastain to play her. It’s unknown, if true, whether or not conversations with the actress have started or if this is just internal gossip. The aforementioned fifth villain remains unknown for now.
It should also be stressed that both Captain America: New World Order and Thunderbolts are being developed at the same time by Marvel, and crossovers between the two are to be expected. In particular, Harrison Ford is set to appear as Thunderbolt Ross in both films, with rumors pointing to him being part of the team of the second one as the Red Hulk.
It is then possible that wires are being crossed and that some of the leaked information from New World Order actually relates to Thunderbolts. In fact, a potential story for Thunderbolts could also revolve around a top-secret visit to the Tiamut Island to get some adamantium for the U.S. After all, David Harbour, who is returning as the Red Guardian in the film, did mention in a recent interview that they will be introducing a brand-new element into the MCU. It all seems to line up at the moment.

WHEN WILL CAPTAIN AMERICA: NEW WORLD ORDER START FILMING?
Producer Nate Moore (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) teased in recent weeks that cameras will begin rolling for the fourth Captain America movie in the spring of 2023. Director Julius Onah was hired earlier this year to helm Anthony Mackie’s first solo adventure as Captain America. Mackie’s Sam Wilson officially claimed the title of the Star Spangled Avenger in Disney Plus’ The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Mackie is joined by a packed cast that, so far, includes Tim Blake Nelson as The Leader, Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres/The Falcon, Shira Haas as Sabra, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, and Harrison Ford as Thunderbolt Ross. Dalan Musson and Malcolm Spellman worked on the script, which Onah described as a “paranoid thriller.” Captain America: New World Order will premiere in theaters on May 3, 2024.
