Setting the Prologue

That Time I Was Reincarnated As A Slime The Movie: Scarlet Bond starts with a full focus on a new character, Hiiro, who is an Ogre from the same village as the Kijin Ogres that now serve Rimuru. The movie fantastically highlights the desperation and devastation of events related to the Orc attack forced by Clayman in season 1. A magnitude of depth is added to a significant arc that set the groundwork for what the Federation of Tempest is today, which was achieved by diving into Hiiro’s story that led him to Queen Towa and the Nation Raja.

The gravitas of the initial battle that occurred before the fall of the Ogre village was a pinnacle event that was executed to please fans that know the anime series well. The natural escalation of Hiiro’s encounter with the Orcs to the intervention by Rimuru for Raja displayed the perfect weave of characters and interactions. Each character was introduced at keystone moments to deliver a natural flow of events that amazingly allowed so many participants to be included.

The branching of characters leading to the final fight was a flawless execution that allowed many battles to debut while wasting no moment for storytelling. Hiiro’s arc carried significant weight but was magnified by the attendance of Benimaru and Towa in their respective scenes. Even the initial transition to the modern day with Gabiru and Gobta training with Hakurou was flawless and delivered fantastic action shots.

The various fights featuring different matchups allowed for so much action to be delivered but only when triggered for the story. It is the chaotic mash-up of correlated events that allowed so much diverse character usage and added fantastic details to the overall story.

Use of New and Existing Characters

That Time I Was Reincarnated As A Slime The Movie: Scarlet Bond included an array of highlighted new characters, and still effectively mixed existing characters that featured throughout the anime series. Hiiro and Towa were vital stars for the story, but a great mix of keystone characters was unexpected and fantastic participation for the story unfolding. Hiiro’s clash with High Orc, Geld, was a genius reminder of the devastation caused by the Orc invasion, as guilt and rage still run deep despite the progress of the show.

What was most impressive is the use of various characters that fans would be familiar with during the anime series story. From Gobta to Diablo, many key characters that call Tempest their home have a fair share of the spotlight. This includes non-Ogre characters such as Gabiru and Soka, who play active roles in the events. The only exclusions are the friends made that live outside of the city, however, some characters are referenced or make an appearance.

Fundamental Explosion of the Unexpected

The secrets behind Towa and the nation of Raja in That Time I Was Reincarnated As A Slime The Movie: Scarlet Bond are a perfect build-up of events that allows a multitude of characters to get involved. The surprising links between past and present have surpassed expectations, with the promise of further exploration in the future. The political ties between the origins of Towa and a recent but unexplored character are the perfect tie-in for the events in the anime series. The genius of the movie is that it suggests more could be explored in the upcoming installments, which start with the upcoming 3rd series.

Missing Ingredient from That Time I Was Reincarnated As A Slime The Movie: Scarlet Bond

Although That Time I Was Reincarnated As A Slime The Movie: Scarlet Bond was a perfect mix that fits beautifully in the storyline for Rimuru, there was a lack of struggle regarding the combat between the protagonists and antagonists. The balance seemed to favor Rimuru and Benimaru as their significant power gave no concern for victory for those who are familiar with the series. This may not be to the liking of fans who watch the movie as a standalone feature as some expect to grit their teeth for significant combat scenes. However, the tension regarding the hidden secret and finale was enough to cause anticipation and fear for specific characters.
