The movie renditions of the characters are fully articulated. It also looks like each figure has its own unique accessories inspired by the film. Mario has a plunger, Luigi has a flashlight, Peach has a parasol, and Toad has a backpack and frying pan.

This is only the first look at toys based on the film. IGN reports that there will be an expanded look at the line of toys from the film coming on February 26, which will include posable figures, accessories, playsets, plushies, and remote control toys. That’s also when toys will start hitting shelves.

Jakks Pacific has done Nintendo and Super Mario-themed toys before, including 2.5″ Mario action figures, a 12″ tall Mario figure, playsets, various plushies, and more. Jakks also created the World of Nintendo action figure line, featuring characters from The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros., Star Fox, and Donkey Kong.

Then, fans will finally be able to check out the new movie from Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment, which hits theaters in April. The upcoming film stars Chris Pratt as the voice of Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, and more. Longtime voice actor Charles Martinet is also set to appear in the film in a currently undisclosed role.

The upcoming feature is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic from a script by Matthew Fogel. It’s produced by Illumination Founder and CEO Chris Meledandri along with Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of the original video games.

So far, these figures are looking like solid interpretations of the characters from the movie. And the movie itself didn’t look like it went too far in reinventing the iconic designs for these characters. In fact, the movie designs look quite faithful to their modern game counterparts. Not to mention, this is just the first look at toys, so we’ll probably be seeing a lot more.

It should be fun to see what other action figures come out of the Jakks Pacific toy line, including Bowser, Kamek, the Koopa Troopers, Donkey Kong, Cranky Kong, the Yoshis, and hopefully some Goombas. The Super Mario Bros. Movie finally hops into theaters on April 7.
