Avataro Sentai Donbrothers Finally Reveals Backstories and Origins

Donbrothers

Avataro Sentai Donbrothers has finally revealed many details regarding the backstory of events, including an explanation behind the Momotaro theme. The finale of the 46th Sentai is days away as the 50th episode of the Super S0entai series finishes the story. Explanations regarding Jiro’s split personality, the Juto, and the personal life of specific Sentai team members. Here are all the latest reveals from the Super Sentai series leading up to the finale.

Avataro Sentai Donbrothers has led with mystery and anticipation since it first aired in Japan on March 6, 2022. The 46th installment of the Super Sentai franchise followed after the 45th anniversary, Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger. The series was written by Toshiki Inoue, who is renowned for his work on Choujin Sentai Jetman due to its unconventional team and iconic storyline. The team is themed on characters from the Momotaro folklore while also having Avataro Gears that could change them into past Rangers or other modes.

The story takes place in the human world but is centered around the hidden history of Ideon, which includes the Don Clan, the Noto, and the Juto (Beastials).

Final Reveals before Donbrothers Finale

The last set of Donbrothers episodes before the finale has revealed many details regarding the backstory for the 46th Sentai series. The Juto are one of the biggest reveals as the artificial lifeforms were created as a failed alternative to humanity by the Don Clan for the Noto. Jiro Momotani was also a huge reveal as the character had a split personality explained and an unexpected story revealed. The Momotaro motif of the Rangers and Kaito’s identity is also confirmed in a recent Donbrothers’ episode.

Penguin Juto & The Forest of Slumber

Penguin Juto in Donbrothers

The Penguin has the last Juto to be revealed in the series, which was mentioned by Miho Kijino when telling Taro about their goals. The Penguin Juto hadn’t been revealed until episode 45, which also debuted Sonogo, Sonoroku, and the Donbrothers appearance debut for the KingOh-Ja Robo. Jiro’s father, Terasaki, was the one who found Jiro Momotani when he was a baby but was revealed to be the Penguin Juto. He also revealed that he was the guardian of the entrance to the Forest of Slumber and that the Juto can only live as long as their connected host.

The Forest of Slumber is a special land that can connect to the Noto and Human worlds, which remained a hidden location. This is also where the Juto took their scanned victims as they took their identity and gain immortality while connected. The entrance was guarded by the Penguin Juto, which was disguised as a full moon in the reflection of water. Terasaki also revealed he was raising and warping Jiro to take over as the guardian of the entrance.

The past for Jiro was always obscured so his history was always based on his word. It’s so crazy that Jiro would so deeply connect to the storyline for the Juto more than the Don Clan like Taro. It also explains why Jiro could have two personalities without believing he has a problem. The Forest Of Slumber was also an incredible debut that was left out when the Juto first appeared, showing the thought put into the series as a whole. Curiously, there is only one Penguin and one Crane Juto in the whole series, but that is likely due to their nature and use for the story.

Doing this has added extra effect to the discovery’s surprise and serious tone.

Jiro Momotani Tormented Then Made Whole

The reveal of his adoptive father being the Penguin Juto also revealed how tormented Jiro’s life was, without him realizing it. The same episode revealed that his friends were illusions created by Terasaki and that the entire village belonged to the Juto, with only Jiro and Terasaki living in the area. This was all for the role that Terasaki wanted Jiro to inherit once he dies. Despite this, Jiro found strength, united himself with Dangerous Jiro, and became whole. This gave him mental stability and even allows him to use both Ranger forms instead of changing personas.

Jiro’s story perfectly explains how he was able to become a Donbrother since the other Rangers were unknowingly affected or chosen when unexpectedly brought into the story. Although a Don Clan member, his powers weren’t fully explained but combined with his revealed origins, the concept makes up for the lack of power origins. Jiro was always a fan-loved character but his merged and normal self has made him seem more heroic than before. This is an amazing use of story, which will likely make Don Doragokuu one of the best character developments in Sentai history.

Kaito Recognised by Jin

During Donbrothers Episode 47, Jin finally indirectly confirms that Kaito is the same person from the past series, Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger. Although the origins are never explained, Jin refers to Kaito as ‘True Hero’ during the meeting for the three Noto to join the Donbrothers. This confirms Zenkaizer become Zenkaizer Black when helping as the administrator of the Ranger series. The full story and explanation have yet to debut for the time between the Zenkaiger finale and the 1st episode of Avataro Sentai Donbrothers.

Kaito’s change in the series seems to have been planned as the Sentai equivalent of Kamen Rider Decade. Fans have also described the Café owner using this reference, but many are still hoping for a full explanation soon. This may happen during the crossover special expected between Zenkaiger and Donbrothers, as seen for many Sentai series before it. Last year, Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger vs. Kiramager vs. Senpaiger was released on April 29 so it’s likely that an explaining how Kaito transitions could come soon, depending on the direction taken for the released special.

Jin Reveals Momotaro Connection

Donbrothers

The Momotaro theme for the Rangers was explained during episode 47 of the series, as Jin informs attendees of the meeting regarding the choice. It was revealed that the Don Clan created the powers to convey a message regarding how allies or enemies may never be permanently fixed. This is why there is OniSister for the Yellow Ranger, despite the Oni being the villain in the story. This explanation was effectively used to illustrate how Sonoi, Sononi, and Sonoza could become allies as they have changed during their time in the human world, along with the connections they have made with the Ranger team.

This unexpected revelation shows the planning Toshiki Inoue has a place in this Sentai series and even illustrates the complexity of life and society. The best part of the scene was the reaction from Haruko played by Kohaku Shida since she adds excellent comedy as she personifies the thoughts of viewers. The timing of the explanation was perfectly set for the three generals to join the Ranger team, making a seamless transfer for the villains to become beloved allies. These three Noto warriors have always been great opponents for the series, but their superb character development is magnified by this reveal.

The final episode of Avataro Sentai Donbrothers is certain to be bitter-sweet and the Sentai series has delivered outstanding storytelling for a whole Ranger series. The fact that fans around the world weren’t able to officially watch this Sentai series like Japan is one of the biggest mistakes by Toei, especially since Shout! Factory has proven the popularity of the Super Sentai releases. Much like Choujin Sentai Jetman, fans will have to wait until the Complete Series DVD and no Sentai series deserves it more.

The Finale of Avataro Sentai Donbrothers will air in Japan on February 26, via TV-Asahi. The 46th Sentai series will end with a total of 50 episodes, with the 47th Sentai, Ohsama Sentai KingOhger to premiere on March 5.

Long time fan of Tokusatsu fan since Power Rangers was first released in the 90s. Whereas most Superhero fans grew up with DC Comics and Marvel, my childhood was surrounded by releases from Saban Entertainment such as Beetleborgs, along with anime, and other various fads of the generation. Anime is also a great passion with Digimon, That Time I Was Reincarnated As A Slime, and Demon Slayer being significant favorites. It was the love of both Power Rangers and Digimon that led to the path of becoming a Senior Writer for The Illuminerdi.
