One of the top executives at Marvel Studios has just exited the company. According to The Hollywood Reporter, longtime Marvel Studios executive Victoria Alonso exited the company late last week. She’s been a part of Marvel’s studio division going back to 2006.

THR reports that Alonso exited Marvel on Friday (Mar. 17). As of now, the reasons for her exit are unclear.

VICTORIA ALONSO EXITS MARVEL STUDIOS

Alonso has been a longtime executive and producer at Marvel going back to the studio’s first major release with Iron Man in 2008, when Marvel endeavored to produce its own films. Over the course of her tenure, Marvel went from operating above the Mercedes-Benz dealership in Beverly Hills to being acquired by The Walt Disney Company.

Alonso began her career at Marvel 17 years ago in 2006 as the company’s chief of visual effects and postproduction. She was also named as a co-producer on Iron Man, also receiving similar co-producer credits on Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger. She later moved up to executive producer for The Avengers in 2012.

She has also served as an executive producer on Marvel’s later releases and their recent Disney+ television shows. In 2021, she was promoted to Marvel Studios’ President of Physical and Post-Production, Visual Effects, and Animation Production.

While reasons for her shocking exit are unclear, it does come following the recent release of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, which performed poorly with critics and has underperformed at the box office. The film has a reported budget of $200 million and has made $463 million worldwide thus far. A report published by Vulture earlier this year also featured allegations by sources in the visual effects industry alleging that Alsono was “singularly responsible” for Marvel’s toxic work environment.

There were also claims that she maintained a blacklist that would put FX artists in fear. One tech in the field claimed in the Vulture article, “The main one that everyone’s quite scared of is Victoria Alonso,” adding, “If she likes you, you’re going to get work and you’re going to move up in the industry. If you have pissed her off in any way, you’re going to get frozen out.”

How this will affect the future of Marvel Studios remains to be seen. However, Alonso has been a major force behind the scene for the studios for many years, so her exit is very surprising and interesting. Additionally, her replacement at the studio has not yet been named.

Meanwhile, Marvel Studios’ next theatrical release, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, is right around the corner. The film will be hitting theaters on May 5. So, the film is very likely near finished or close to completion.
