Zazie Beetz Denies Returning in Deadpool 3 As The Insanely Lucky Domino

According to the actress, she's not returning as Domino in Deadpool 3.
Deadpool 2 - Domino, will she return in Deadpool 3?

Will Zazie Beetz reprise her role as the mutant Domino in Marvel’s upcoming Deadpool 3? Speaking to Decider at the Tribeca Film Festival, Beetz indicated that she’s not part of the new production, so don’t expect her to be back for the upcoming film.

ZAZIE BEETZ CLAIMS SHE’S NOT RETURNING AS DOMINO IN DEADPOOL 3

While promoting her new Max limited series, Full Circle, on the red carpet at Tribeca, Beetz was asked by Decider about her future as Domino and if she’ll be appearing in Deadpool 3. She stated the following:

“Well I’m actually not in Deadpool 3, so I don’t know what they’re doing [about improvisation]. I’m assuming they’re probably taking a pause. […] I’m excited to watch it.”

It was previously rumored in October 2022 that Beetz had been in talks to reprise her role as the character for the upcoming threequel. However, the news went quiet if she was actually part of the cast or not when filming on the project began earlier in May.

Based on comments Beetz had made to ScreenRant in March 2022, she definitely sound excited by the idea that Domino would be a part of the next cinematic Deadpool installment. However, earlier this May, after the rumored negotiations had apparently taken place, Beetz commented to ComicBook.com, “Unfortunately, I plead the fifth. […] I’m sorry.”

Beetz made her debut as Domino, aka Neena Thurman, in Deadpool 2. Deadpool recruits her to join his new team X-Force in order to fight Cable and protect the young mutant Firefist (Julian Dennison). Thanks to her luck-based superpowers, she manages to survive the halo jump that comedically kills the other X-Force recruits, and she does survive the film.

Domino was another character created by Rob Liefeld, like Deadpool, making her first appearance in the pages of Marvel Comics’ X-Force in 1992. Over the years, Domino has been affiliated with the X-Men, the X-Force, the Weapon X-Force, The Underground, and more. She’s become a popular ongoing character in the X-books.

While Domino had appeared in animation, Beetz is the first actress to portray the character in a live-action motion picture. Whether or not Beetz is telling the truth remains to be seen. It would not be the first time an actor said they weren’t returning or appearing in a film when that is not actually the case.

Deadpool 3 is currently filming. Shawn Levy takes over as director from a screenplay co-written by star Ryan Reynolds, Wendy Molyneux, Lizzie Molyneux, Rhett Reese, and Paul Wernick. The film once again stars Reynolds, who reprises his role as the Merc with a Mouth, Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool. He’s joined by Hugh Jackman, who will be reprising his longtime role as Logan, aka Wolverine, to team up with Deadpool for the sequel.

Also returning for the cast are Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Stefan Kapicic as Colossus, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Rob Delaney as Peter, and Karan Soni as Dopinder. New to the cast are Matthew Macfadyen and Emma Corrin. Their roles are still currently unknown at the moment.

Deadpool 3 will mark the first installment of the franchise produced by Marvel Studios, while the previous films were produced by 20th Century Fox before The Walt Disney Company purchased 21st Century Fox and The FOX Company’s media assets. Due to the ongoing WGA strike, the film’s release date has moved once again. It’s currently expected to release on May 3, 2024.

It was originally dated to release on September 6, 2024, before moving to November 8, 2024. However, if the actors’ union, SAG-AFTRA, does not reach a new contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) by June 30, that means SAG-AFTRA could be joining the WGA on the picket lines by going on strike. That could cause a massive shutdown on filmed and scripted productions in the entertainment industry.

What do you think of the news? Do you think Zazie Beetz is playing coy regarding her return as Domino in Deadpool 3, or do you think she’s being sincere? Do you want to see her back as Domino in the threequel, or would you like to see different characters instead? Let us know what you think about the news on The Illuminerdi’s social media.
