New Details On Insomniac’s Wolverine Game Targeting Late 2024 Release

Some new details have surfaced for the upcoming Insomniac Games Wolverine title, perhaps shedding light on when the game might be released.

Just over two years ago, Insomniac Games and Sony PlayStation revealed that a new solo Wolverine video game, Marvel’s Wolverine, was in the works for PlayStation 5. There hasn’t been a lot of new information about the title since it was announced, but a new rumor from YouTuber and gaming insider TCMF Games possibly sheds some light on when the upcoming Marvel game might finally see the light of day.

With Insomniac’s new Spider-Man 2 game arriving next month, TCMF Games reports that developers at Insomniac are now moving over to work on Wolverine. Also, the developer is said to be targeting a late 2024 release date for the planned launch.

TCMF Games’ report also noted that Tommy Mann, a senior cinematic animator for the upcoming Spider-Man 2 release, is also working on the title to speed up the game’s development so it meets the rumored launch date. It should be noted this news does not come from an official source, such as Sony Interactive Entertainment, PlayStation, Marvel Entertainment, or Insomniac, so it should be taken with a grain of salt.

Expectations of the game will be incredibly high based on Insomniac’s previous Marvel-based games with Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales. From the looks of early footage, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 looks to be another Marvel superhero masterpiece from Insomniac Games, so hopefully, it will live up to expectations.

It’s been quite a while since the Wolverine title was first announced. The pre-rendered CG announcement teaser only showed everyone’s favorite Canadian mutant, aka Logan/Wolverine, in the aftermath of what looked to have been quite the bar brawl. When another thug sneaks up on Logan with a knife, he’s already a step ahead, popping his adamantium claws from his knuckles with the trademark *snikt* sound.

Since then, there’s been very little talk or revealed about the game. This isn’t the first solo Wolverine video game that’s been released. The last one was the X-Men Origins: Wolverine tie-in game released to coincide with the 2009 movie of the same name. The X-Men who calls himself “the best there is at what I do” has also been a playable character in numerous Marvel and X-Men video games over the years. Most recently, he appeared as a playable character in Marvel’s Midnight Suns, released last year by developer Firaxis Games and publisher 2K.

Now that Insomniac is wrapping up Spider-Man 2, hopefully, this is a positive track that development on Wolverine is going smoothly and there won’t be any problems with the release. Hopefully, this also means players can soon expect to finally see some gameplay footage and get a sense of how the gameplay format and style will work.

Besides these titles, multiple other major, big-budget AAA Marvel video game titles are currently in the works. Electronic Arts is collaborating with Motive Studio for a solo Iron Man video game that’s in the works. Also, Skydance New Media is working on a new Marvel Universe game set during World War II featuring Captain America (Steve Rogers) and the Black Panther of that era, Azzuri, who is the grandfather of King T’Challa. Amy Hennig of Uncharted fame is overseeing the writing and creative direction for the title.

Unfortunately, the currently untitled Iron Man and WWII Marvel Universe games don’t have official release dates yet either. So gamers could still be waiting for them for a while. The Iron Man game is being developed by Olivier Proulx, who previously worked on the 2021 Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy video game developed by Eidos-Montreal, which was a highly underrated title.

While Wolverine does not yet have an official release date, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, developed by Insomniac and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, hits the shelves on October 20. The game will be available exclusively for the PlayStation 5. Wolverine is also in the works as a PS5 exclusive.
