Is the Scarlet Witch, aka Wanda Maximoff, of the MCU truly dead? The new Marvel Studios’ The Marvel Cinematic Universe: An Official Timeline book has recently hit shelves where it details the chronological order of the events that have happened in the MCU. A detail from the book has fans debating a certain character’s ending that was announced in the new MCU timeline book.

THE ERA OF THE SCARLET WITCH HAS ENDED

The last time we saw the Scarlet Witch, she destroyed the Darkhold and she also brought down the Wundagore Mountain on top of her in last year’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. At the very end of the end credits, it was announced that Doctor Strange would be making his appearance again in the future but there was nothing said about Elizabeth Olsen’s beloved character.

According to a tweet by Culture Crave, it reads, “[Wanda] destroys Wundagore – and collapses it upon herself- ending two great threats to all of the Multiverse.”

The official passage in the book doesn’t state that the character is dead but the threat of the Scarlet Witch has ended. This would ultimately lead to many fans debating on the future of the character.

According to X user MasterTainment, they said that this doesn’t mean that she is dead. “It just means she’s no longer a threat to the multiverse. She overcame her corruption by the Darkhold and destroyed the original Darkhold engravings. No more threat. That’s why the Scarlet Witch prophecy can go two ways.”

Reddit has also created a discussion about this with a user saying, “Yeah, you’d think Marvel wouldn’t think so little of us. They very carefully failed to mention Wanda’s name in relation to who actually dies.”

IS WANDA MAXIMOFF REALLY GONE?

The MCU timeline book has confirmed that the Scarlet Witch sacrificed herself and the threat is now dead. Do we think that she is officially gone? We don’t think so due to feeling like her story is not yet over. When it came to the death of Tony Stark, it felt like a sad yet proper send-off for the character. Tony Stark and Steve Rogers were the leaders of the Avengers and their story was bound to end one way or another.

When it comes to Wanda Maximoff, it doesn’t feel like her story has ended. We saw her character come to her demise at the end of the Doctor Strange film but it doesn’t really make sense to just abrupt her story. The Scarlet Witch’s evil presence in the MCU might have ended but she can still redeem herself and make an appearance in future MCU projects.

Elizabeth Olsen has hinted previously on how she could return to the MCU:

“I feel like we’ve done so much. Now, we can really have fun; I feel like there’s a lot more humor to be had with her. She’s often the emotion of a story, and I’m curious to see what we can explore. And hopefully [we can] give her some redemption.”

There also has been much speculation that Olsen might even be making her MCU return in another reported WandaVision spinoff series called Vision Quest.

In conclusion, we don’t think that Wanda Maximoff is gone. The MCU timeline book has only stated that the threat has ended, not the character. The current Multiverse era in the MCU is expansive so we have a strong feeling she will show up once again.
