Glen Powell to star in Chad Powers

Hulu has a new original comedy series that’s coming from Anyone But You and Top Gun: Maverick star Glen Powell. The new college football-themed comedy series, Chad Powers, is currently in the works for the streamer. The show comes from co-creators and executive producers Glen Powell and Michael Waldron, with Powell attached to star.

Hulu announced this week that the half-hour comedy show received a series order. Former NFL player Eli Manning serves as executive producer along with Omaha Productions’ Peyton Manning, along with Jamie Horowitz, Ben Brown, and ESPN. Waldron and Adam Fasullo are also producing the project for Anomaly Pictures.

Powell will star, co-create, co-write, and executive produce the show under his co-banner, Barnstorm Productions. The show is a co-production with Omaha Productions, ESPN, and Anomaly. The show comes from 20th Television Productions.

The series follows Powell as the hotshot quarterback Russ Holiday. However, after bad behavior torpedos his career, Holliday disguises himself and joins a struggling Southern football team as the talented, affable Chad Powers. The show is based on a previous sketch produced by NFL Films and Omaha Productions that aired on ESPN+ as part of Eli’s Places. In the sketch, Eli Manning went undercover as a College Football walk-on at Penn State named Chad Powers.

Speaking on the news in a joint statement via press release, Powell and Waldron commented: “We’re both diehard college football fans. When we saw Eli as Chad Powers, we knew that was the way into a big, fun story about this world. We’re excited to be part of this team, and can’t wait to get Chad in the game. Think fast, run fast.”

Eli Manning chimed in, “The love for Chad Powers has surprised me in spectacular ways.” He continued, “I played 16 years in the NFL, but now when I’m in a restaurant or walking through an airport, it’s not uncommon for fans to scream, ‘Hey Chad!’ I’m so excited to team up with my friends Glen Powell, Michael Waldron, and Omaha Productions to continue to tell the Chad Powers story and see what he does next.”
