One Piece Live action adaptation will feature the original Japanese cast for the dub coming to Netflix. The cast of the anime series will be reprising their roles as voice actors for the Japanese dub of the new series releasing this August. This includes the iconic voice actor, Mayumi Tanka, who voices Monkey D. Luffy along with the incredible cast that feature in the anime series. A video also reveals Tanka’s encounter with Iñaki Godoy features their meeting as he receives a symbolic gift.
One Piece adapted the iconic manga written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda as an anime series in 1999. The Japanese cast has portrayed the iconic roles of the Straw Hat Pirates for over 20 years, with the anime still running with over 1000 episodes. Netflix announced the live-action adaptation of One Piece as an upcoming release during 2020 but now fans finally get to see the iconic tale brought to life for the first time. A trailer finally showed the incredible cast recently at TUDUM 2023 and featured the first look at the adaptation, showcasing the recreation of renowned scenes and moments from the story.
One Piece History as Live Action Japanese Dub Features Iconic Cast
The original Japanese voice actors from the One Piece anime will be reprising their roles in the One Piece live-action series, available on Netflix globally on 31 August 2023. Fans at Anime Expo 2023 in Los Angeles were the first to watch a video of Mayumi Tanaka, the original anime voice of Monkey D. Luffy, welcoming Iñaki Godoy to the Straw Hats with symbolic gifting of Luffy’s iconic straw hat.

The full cast of Japanese original voice actors will be joining Mayumi Tanaka to bring the Japanese-language version of the live-action ONE PIECE to life – with Kazuya Nakai as Roronoa Zoro, Akemi Okamura as Nami, Kappei Yamaguchi as Usopp, and Hiroaki Hirata as Sanji.

The live-action series stars Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji. The series is created in partnership with Shueisha and produced by Tomorrow Studios and Netflix. Matt Owens and Steven Maeda are writers, executive producers, and showrunners. Eiichiro Oda, Marty Adelstein, and Becky Clements also executive produce. Additional cast includes Vincent Regan, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Morgan Davies, Aidan Scott, Langley Kirkwood, Jeff Ward, Celeste Loots, Alexander Maniatis, McKinley Belcher III, Craig Fairbrass, Steven Ward, and Chioma Umeala.
This is a momentous moment as it is overwhelming that the Japanese cast renowned for portraying iconic characters will be dubbing the live-action adaptation. It was also amazing to see both Iñaki Godoy and Mayumi Tanaka meet, and it was so heart-pounding to see Godoy receive a straw hat from the iconic voice actor. This makes it even harder to choose between dubs and subs, but it’s important to note that the cast and crew have poured everything into making this one of the best adaptations ever created. It’s going to be hard to resist watching One Piece in both dubs as the cast will deliver an unforgettable performance.
One Piece is the latest live-action adaptation that will be released globally on August 21, and will only be available on Netflix. The series will feature in English language with dubs for Japanese and Spanish, with subtitles for multiple languages available.
