Echo: Daredevil and Kingpin Confirmed in New Synopsis for MCU Disney+ Show

Daredevil and Kingpin have been confirmed via a new synopsis for "Echo" Disney+ series!
Hawkeye - Echo

Some new details have been revealed for Marvel Studios’ upcoming new series, Echo. Alaqua Cox as Echo was exceptional when she first appeared in Hawkeye. As we have all learned, after her father was killed, Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin ended up raising her as his adopted daughter. The last time we see both characters interact is in the finale of Hawkeye where she ends up shooting Fisk.

In the comics, it is known that both Daredevil and Kingpin have a history with Echo. Now that the character will have her own spin-off series, Echo, it has been revealed that both Daredevil and Kingpin will be included in the series.

KINGPIN AND DAREDEVIL WILL RETURN

Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/KingPin

Originally, the series was supposed to release in November 2023 but it was pushed back to January 2024. A filing report from Marvel Studios with the United States Copyright Office shows a new synopsis and the full list of cast/characters. The report reads:

“Marvel Studios presents Echo in which Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) struggles to reconnect with her Native American roots while balancing aspirations tied to a life of crime as successor to the brutal legacy of Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) aka Kingpin. In the cast fill list, Charlie Cox is confirmed to return in the iconic role of Matt Murdock/Daredevil. Other actors who are joining the team are Chaske Spencer as Henry, Tantoo Cardinal as Chula, Graham Greene as Skully, Cody Lightning as Cousin Biscuits, K. Devery Jacobs as Bonnie, and Zahn McClarnon as William Lopez.

ECHO’S HISTORY IN THE COMICS

Maya Lopez first debuted in Daredevil #9 in 1999. Her story goes that her father was named “Crazy Horse” and was killed by Wilson Fisk. Her father’s dying wish was for Kingpin to raise Maya as his own. He honored that wish and Kingpin became Echo’s stepfather. Lopez was a quick learner, had amazing reflexes, and could learn and mirror the abilities of others (like Taskmaster).

Her signature look is a white handprint on her face, similar to the bloody handprint left by her father in his last moments alive. One of the most notable storylines in the comics is when Fisk sends her to go after Matt Murdock to seduce him while fighting against Daredevil. She eventually falls in love with Murdock but doesn’t realize that Murdock is Daredevil.

She easily defeats him as she can mimic his fighting style, but when she finds out that Murdock is Daredevil, she ends up fleeing the scene. She is not happy with the Kingpin for what he was making her do which leads her to shoot him in the face.

In the MCU, we get to see Clint Barton become Ronin but in the comics, there are many characters who don the name. One of them being Maya Lopez. During a 2005 New Avengers arc, Lopez was recommended to join the team by Daredevil to Captain America. She was going under a new ninja identity as Ronin. At the time, she was killing multiple assassins from the Yashida Fortress, the Hand and Hydra in Japan. She was eventually killed by Elektra who was the leader of the Hand but revived her with their black magic and influenced her in joining their teams.
