DC Comics is publishing several captivating new comic books this week. Here are 5 new comic books that are worth checking out.
“Dawn Of DC” is a publishing initiative that looks to reshape the universe, hopefully for the better. The goal of the project is to breathe new life into their Universe by starting fresh stories for heroes from every generation. Dawn Of DC isn’t perfect, but it does show a lot of promise. Here are 5 new comic books DC published on Dec. 12, 2023, that you should be reading.
TITANS: BEAST WORLD #2
“With beasts rampaging through the streets and a world conqueror in the sky, the Titans must do all they can to save humanity. But as heroes and villains alike are infected, will the team stay clear of the spores or become part of the threat? And as the world rages, can Raven discover a way to save Beast Boy?”
The Justice League disbanded recently. As such, the Titans have stepped forward as the new premier super-team in the DC Universe. Beast Boy, Starfire, Nightwing, Wonder Girl, and The Flash successfully handled a few missions before all hell broke loose.
The Church Of Blood, and its leader, Brother Blood, have fought many battles against the Titans. In the Titans ongoing series, the religious cult rebranded as The Church of Eternity. It turned out that Brother Eternity was planning to call forth an ancient monster called the Necrostar.

Beast Boy uses all of his power to turn into one of Starro’s kind, and he fights off the Necrostar. Unfortunately, his success is short-lived, because a new enemy arrives before Beast Boy can return to the Titans. Mystical DC supervillain “Doctor Hate” unleashes a devastating spell on Beast Boy, severing his psychic connection with Raven and seemingly destroying his spirit.
The mindless Starro-like creature formerly known as Beast Boy turns its eye to the earth, and unleashes a wave of superpowered spores. These spores seek out the strongest metahumans on the planet, and if they infect a host, they turn that meta into a humanoid-animal hybrid.
A lot is going on, but ultimately, the lovable, rich interpersonal dynamics of the Titans make this a story worth every DC fan’s time. The promise of Black Adam as a lion-man in Titans: Beast World #2 is exciting, but the continued development of the Titans’ family bond is the real treat.
OUTSIDERS #2
“On January 1, 2000, a storm kicked up near the Enlil island chain in the mid-Atlantic. And it never stopped. As a West Point cadet, Kate Kane encountered something monstrous in those turbulent waves…and now, she is returning to face it alongside the Outsiders! But can she control her desire for revenge in the service of Luke Fox’s mission of understanding? What secrets will they discover deep beneath the monster-filled waves of the Enlil Triangle? And how will the Outsiders survive their encounter with the monster-hunting specialists of the DC Universe: the new Challengers of the Unknown?”
Described as a “boundary-breaking dive into the secret history of the DC Universe”, the new Outsiders run is shaping up to be something unforgettable. The Bat-family is a complicated thing, and sometimes, members of Bruce Wayne’s organization need to operate without him. In this new series, Batwing (Luke Fox) and Batwoman (Kate Kane) are teaming up to explore the unknown corners of reality.

Batwing and Batwoman’s superheroic bond is as entertaining as their pairing in the Arrowverse, if not even more. Their uniquely brilliant and dynamic chemistry made for a thrilling adventure in the first issue. The artwork from Robert Carey (particularly Batwoman’s snowsuit) is to die for, and the adventure show no signs of slowing down.
In Outsiders #2, Kate and Luke are going to unravel the secrets of the mysterious “Forever Storm of the Enlil Triangle”. The story is referred to as “Monsters Of The Unknown”, which could indicate that the new Challengers Of The Unknown are less traditionally human than their predecessors. Are they monsters literally, figuratively, or is the branding intentionally misleading?
You’ll have to read Outsiders #2 in order to solve that mystery and other fascinating DC secrets!
BATMAN & ROBIN #4
“Batman and Robin have been separated! Batman works with White Rabbit to track down the new femme fatale Shush while his son, Damian, hunts down the criminal mastermind who is targeting his father! But Damian won’t like who he finds! Don’t miss out on the shocking ending!”
Batman and Robin are like grilled cheese and tomato soup. Peanut butter and chocolate. They work better together, or at least they’re supposed to. That being said, some DC fans just haven’t connected with the latest primary Robin, Damian Wayne.
Damian Wayne is the son of Talia al Ghul and Bruce Wayne. He was trained in the League Of Assassins as a child before becoming the most recent Boy Wonder, otherwise known as Robin. As Batman’s sidekick, Damian has come a long way, and this new book proves that their father-son link works wonders.
Bruce Wayne is far from perfect, but he tries his best to be both a good father and a vigilante/mentor to his children. There is a divide between the two because Damian feels that while Batman understands him well, Bruce Wayne does not. The duality of their alter-egos causes rifts between the dynamic duo, and that makes for one very compelling storyline.
WESLEY DODDS: THE SANDMAN #3
“Wesley’s search for answers brings him to the city morgue as he learns the man who broke into his home didn’t die from the fire. But the clues he finds land him face-to-face with the true villain, and he’s already begun using the Sandman gear. Enter: The Fog!”
Wesley Dodds is the golden-age Sandman, and he is most often associated with the Justice Society of America. Some JSA heroes like Stargirl and The Flash have had a resurgence in recent popularity, while others like Sandman haven’t had much time in the spotlight. But Sandman finally has center stage to himself in an exciting miniseries.

Taking place in 1940’s Manhattan, the tone of this book is very classy with a noir feel to it. Wesley Dodds is horrified by the gas attacks of the Great War, and so he seeks a way to solve conflict more peacefully. He uses his scientific mind to develop a sleeping gas that would incapacitate combatants instead of killing them.
Wesley fights crime in the city, using his sleeping-gas gun while wearing a gas mask. Dodds later tries to sell his idea to the government in an effort to save lives, and he is laughed away. The top brass want nothing to do with his invention, but someone else does. Wesley has a special connection to the realm of dreams. He sees a vision of a dark, twisted version of The Sandman – someone who will use his research to commit atrocities.
This new villain is known as “The Fog”, and if DC fans take to the new enemy, he could become a staple in Sandman’s rogues gallery. This book has distinctive artwork, pulpy crime-fighting drama, and a riveting mystery. Wesley Dodds: The Sandman #3 should not be missed.
GREEN LANTERN #6
“It’s come down to this! Hal Jordan, Earth’s Green Lantern, finally faces off against his former mentor, Sinestro, whose power to instill fear has been replaced with an elemental rage that could level the planet he once swore to protect.”
Green Lantern is one of the most exciting “Dawn Of DC” storylines right now.
This new series from writers Peter J. Tomasi and Jeremy Adams portrays Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) as the definition of willpower. They tell a high-energy, emotionally charged tale that is beautifully brought to life by artists Xermanico, Darko Lafuente, and Scott Godlewski.
The love-triangle between Hal Jordan, his ex Carol Ferris, and her fiancé is just as gripping as the explosive sci-fi action. In Green Lantern #5, Sinestro waged war on earth, trying to cause a global panic through acts of terror. Sinestro’s goal was to create enough fear to charge his yellow ring, which is inactive at the moment.
Just like Green Lantern’s ring is powered by will, Sinestro’s is powered by fear. Hal Jordan calmed the masses with an inspiring televised speech about the strength of the human spirit. Green Lantern used his ring to create multiple constructs and take down Sinestro’s hijacked planes. But the conflict was far from over.
Sinestro mentioned how something is wrong with the emotional spectrum, foreshadowing the activation of Sinestro’s yellow ring with the wrong color and powers. Sinestro no longer fights with the yellow power of fear, but now wields the rage-based powers of the Red Lanterns.
