With his departure from WWE in 2018 and making his way into AEW a year later, it does not come to some surprise that the name of Chris Jericho’s signature move, The Code Breaker, was going to be banned from WWE TV sometime in the near future. Well, that future is now.

In a recent report from Dave Meltzer (Uncle Dave to many wrestling fans out there) in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE announcers have been banned from using the phrase, but are now calling it Double Knees – originally called the Double Knee Facebreaker. Most recently, both Asuka and Ricochet have used the Double Knees respectively in their own matches.
In fact, it was Meltzer himself he penned:
“Asuka made a hot tag and hit a codebreaker, which, by the way, is a term the announcers are banned from using.”
Codebreaker No More
It’s safe to say that there is no love lost for Codebreaker being banned, considering it was Chris Jericho himself that named the move in his first match back in the company in 2007 when he faced Santino Marella .
What are your thoughts on name Codebreaker being banned? Will it necessarily bother anyone? Was it the right move on WWE’s part? Make sure the hit the comments with Code- Sorry, Double Knees of your own let us know your thoughts on the matter.
