Whenever you get together with friends and you discuss Power Rangers, the question of what is your favorite season must come up? Fans far and wide have their favorites for various reasons such as Mighty Morphin for being the original, In Space for changing the game and saving the series, or Time Force for showing off a strong leader and telling a great story.
Well, the current showrunner of Power Rangers, Simon Bennett revealed his favorite season, and it seems to be a good one. Here is what he had to say:
“I really like RPM, to be honest. I do appreciate that it’s more adult in tone. As far as hitting home with the show’s target audience, it might not have been the most successful, but I really like the aesthetic of that show. I like the way that the comedy within the show was built into the range of the team and felt like a natural aspect of the range of storytelling. There are various things of that show that I really admire. Not that I would necessarily be replicating them, but as a piece of television, I really liked that season.”
Bennett Shifts Into Gear With His Favorite Power Rangers Season
So, it looks like Bennett is a fan of RPM, the series that really turned the franchise on its axis. Power Rangers RPM told a post-apocalyptic tale of survival, working to stop the continuation of a doomsday device and strong character background and storytelling makes a lot of sense.
As a fan of Power Rangers, it was good to see the show take a chance and move from a goofy lighthearted sense to a dark, consequence-impacted world especially for viewers who have grown up with Power Rangers and felt a new change was needed. Bennett also talks about keeping RPM where it is and not trying to replicate the tone of the season. sometimes showrunners feel if one season aspect worked well, they try it again to see if lightning can strike twice and most of the time it does not.
Using the Super Sentai, “Engine Sentai Go-Onger” which was more of a comedic for a season that was more mature than most was a tough move because often fitting a square piece in a circle will not work and with RPM it worked once. As Bennett explained, when you have a good cast, a natural way of telling the story, things just come together on their own and magic happens.
