The brand-new theatrical reboot for the Resident Evil franchise from Sony Pictures and Constantin Films has finally revealed its release date and a new poster.
Actor Chad Rook (The Flash), who will star in the reboot as Richard Aiken, has tweeted out a new promo poster for the video game adaptation with the movie releasing September 3, 2021.
New Poster Reveal For Resident Evil
The picture Rook tweeted out features a forest with a dark red background and along names of classic Resident Evil characters as well as the film’s director, Johannes Roberts. There are no zombies or Tyrant in sight in the promo, but we do get some familiar names such as Jill Valentine, Albert Wesker, Chris and Claire Redfield, and Leon S. Kennedy. This is great news for fans who weren’t impressed with the previous Milla Jovovich led six-movie saga that had plots and characters branching off into different directions than the original games.
Johannes Roberts known for his work on horror movies such as 47 Meters Down, will be directing and writing the reboot. Roberts has said he wants the film to “go back to the original first two games and recreate the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences.” It seems the movie will take place in 1998 with the Mansion incident and the Raccoon City zombie outbreak from the games.
Resident Evil will also feature an impressive cast roster with the likes of Kaya Scodelario (Maze Runner) as Claire Redfield, Robbie Amell (Upload) as Chris Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Tom Hopper (Umbrella Academy) as Albert Wesker, and Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Leon S. Kennedy.
The reboot is one of many projects set to release from the franchise this year. Capcom is hard at work at producing their next video game, Resident Evil: Village, that is set to come out this May. As well as a Netflix series that will release later this year. Let’s hope the movies have better chance at pleasing fans this time than the previous adaptation, especially since the newest video games have had more success going back to its horror roots.
Resident Evil is currently slated for a theatrical release September 3, 2021. What do you think of the new poster? What are you hoping for in the new reboot? Let us know in the comment section or over on our social media!
