At the end of Sunday’s episode of Batwoman, it was revealed that Kate Kane is still alive, but she has sustained injuries due to a crash which made her unrecognizable after what was thought to be a fatal plane crash. With the departure of Ruby Rose from the role of Batwoman back in May, it was thought her character was leaving the series all together. As it turns out, Kate Kane is very much still around.

Krypton star, Wallis Day, will be making her debut as an altered version of the character this second season.

The actress went to Twitter to confirmed she will be joining the cast of the CW series and she is excited to be welcomed back to the DC family. For a while, some fans have wanted to see Day take over the role since Rose’s exit from the series. Writer and producer Caroline Dries, also adds that she is excited to be bringing Day to take over the role of the altered Kate Kane.

“Wallis Day is going to be playing our altered version of Kate Kane, and she’s an amazing actress,” Showrunner Caroline Dries said. “I’m excited for you guys to see the journey that she endures.”

It’s possible that Kate’s return could tie in with the introduction of the DC villain Black Mask as he is teased to be coming this season. Season 2 is also adding new cast members such as Shivani Ghai (Dominoin) as Safiyah, Nathan Owens as Ocean, Leah Gibson as The Whisper, and notably Alex Morf as Victor Zsasz.

Additionally, the original Batwoman, Ruby Rose, took to social media to offer some words of positivity to Wallis Day:

“I’m sorry I didn’t congratulate @wallisday yesterday. I knew about the casting beforehand and didn’t know when it aired so I forgot to. But I’m stoked for her! I’m seeing all the things I’m tagged in with people sad or wondering how I felt…I feel great, I have nothing but good vibes.”

Even though this news may come to surprise to many fans, Javicia Leslie’s role as Batwoman will continue to be the main lead of the series, as she is the first African American actor to take the mantle of the character in live-action. The re-introduction of Kate Kane into the show only solidifies the fact that Leslie’s role as Ryan Wilder will be the only one suiting up in the Batsuit.

The second half of the season will likely play heavily into Kate’s character on her whereabouts and to how she will be moving forward after the crash that left her unrecognizable.
