Magic: The Gathering invites you to play.
Netflix seems to be all in when it comes to adapting popular geek and pop culture fan favorites. From Death Note to Full Metal Alchemist, The Witcher to the upcoming Cowboy Bebop – Magic: The Gathering has now been added to its ever-growing list.

For those unfamiliar with it, Magic is a table top card game (that can also be played online) that was released by Wizards of the Coast in 1993. The game was the first of its kind, with more than thirty five million players world wide. Players take the role of a Planeswalker, using spells, artifacts and creatures to defeat one another. Once the opponent’s “life total” is reduced from 20 to 0, the game is over. The losing player will shamefully pack up his/her belongings, and take a long walk home, as he/she has brought shame upon their family. Jokes aside, Magic is a very strategic game that requires being several steps ahead of your opponent.
Magic: The Gathering And Chill
Netflix has cast Brandon Routh as Gideon Jura, a popular hero that fights for justice. He is described as:
“Fiercely loyal, unyielding, just, and charismatic, Gideon Jura (known as “Kytheon Iora” on his home plane of Theros) doesn’t hesitate to enter combat to defend the innocent. A powerful warrior-mage with the ability to make himself invulnerable, he wields a four-bladed surral and hieromancy magic against his foes. A man of the people, he takes pride in leading his comrades towards the common good.”
This description of Gideon shows that Brandon could potentially do this popular character justice as he is no stranger to playing righteous characters.

I am very interested to check this series out. I had no idea that this was under development! I’ve dabbled in Magic before but never quite extensively researched the lore.
