Transformers are about to make a few new furry friends at the stables.
One of the best things about comics is the impossible can happen. The budget constraints of their big-screen counterparts don’t apply on page, and we get to revel in the likes of Batman and Robin teaming up with the Ninja Turtles, or Tarzan and the Predator beating the living daylights out of one another.
But in the world of unlikely comic crossovers, comic publishers IDW are gearing up to unleash a collision of universes that Twitter seemingly foreshadowed a while back: Transformers and My Little Pony.

Transformers: Friendship is Magic
From the looks of things, Queen Chrysalis is at it again. And this time, her magical hijinks drag some of our favourite Autobots to Equestria…with a few Decepticons along for the ride. The synopsis, courtesy of IDW Publishing, genuinely makes you grin trying to imagine how this mash-up could go:
In My Little Pony/Transformers, the scheming Queen Chrysalis casts a spell insearch of changeling allies, but accidentally interferes with a distant Cybertronian Spacebridge… and brings the Autobots and Decepticons to Equestria! As the dust settles, it’s up to Twilight Sparkle, Optimus Prime, and others to overcome the menace of malevolent magic and machinery!
The IDW Editor-In-Chief, John Barber, seems just as excited as fans are. On the official website, he wrote: “Teaming TRANSFORMERS and MY LITTLE PONY has been a dream we’ve had for a long time… We’re all really excited to see this mashup of characters by a mashup of creators who are honoring the legacy of both universes… and doing it in the most bonkers, fun way imaginable!”

Look, we just really want to see Bumblebee and Fluttershy become best friends, okay? It absolutely would happen. And all our inner child needs right now is to read Optimus Prime attempting to make sense of Pinkie Pie. Even the cover art would bring a smile to a stone face – take a look at Arcee and Rarity tearing up the battlefield:
Artists Priscilla Tramontano, Casey W. Collier, Jack Lawence, Sara Pitre-Durocher and Tony Fleecs are onboard, and the series is set to be written by James Asmus, Sam Maggs and Ian Flynn, with the first issue released this May.
