We only have a few short weeks before Marvel fans will finally be able to watch the first two episodes of Hawkeye on Disney+.
Hawkeye will focus on everyone’s favorite archer Clint Barton / Hawkeye in his own solo project since his introduction in 2011 with Thor. The series will also introduce Kate Bishop as Clint’s protege who eventually takes up the mantle of Hawkeye in the comics.
The series will take place after the events of Avengers Endgame and the post-credits scene of Black Widow where Yelena Belova is tasked by Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine to take down Hawkeye who is being blamed for the death of Black Widow.
The cast and the producers have been doing the rounds talking to members of the media about the project and what fans can expect for the upcoming series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
During the junket, Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige, was asked about how they consider using or not using various characters in cameos in MCU projects such as Hawkeye:
“Marvel is the world outside your window. In the Marvel comics, yes, Spidey could swing at any moment, or the Fantastic Four could come flying down. But, even in the comics it’s what is the story you’re telling. That’s what always has to be the primary focus, which in this case very much Clint and Kate and getting to know more about Clint and getting to meet and know about Kate. Everything in this series is focused towards that.
What Does This Mean For Cameos In Hawkeye?
So does this mean that we won’t see any other characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe appear in the series? Well, not exactly…
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is the perfect example of this. The story was primarily focused on and Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes, however, the series still featured a quick cameo from Don Cheadle as James Rhodes / War Machine. Cheadle was even nominated for an Emmy for this cameo.
Another example of this is with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings where Wong from Doctor Strange and Abomination from The Incredible Hulk make inconsequential cameo appearances.
Of course, there is the elephant in the room that needs to be addressed with the rumors of Vincent D’Onofrio reprising his role as Wilson Fisk / Kingpin from Netflix’s Daredevil series.
Nothing in Feige’s statement seems to disprove these rumors. He states that the story is primarily about Clint and Kate, however, that doesn’t mean that the Kingpin doesn’t fit within their story.
For all we know, Fisk could be the one secretly running things behind the scenes in Hawkeye which would make him the big reveal at the end of the show. We also know that the character of Echo will be appearing in the show and has strong connections to the Daredevil characters in the comics.
Echo was also announced to be getting her own spin-off series after her appearance in Hawkeye. The series has been reported to be a pseudo-Daredevil season 4 with most of the main cast rumored returning.
Only time will tell if all of these Daredevil revival rumors will be true as Hawkeye premieres on Disney+ November 24th.
