Dominant comedy director Ivan Reitman has passed away at the age of 75, his family confirms.
They released a statement that reads: “Our family is grieving the unexpected loss of a husband, father, and grandfather who taught us to always seek the magic in life.”

His – children Jason Reitman, Catherine Reitman, and Caroline Reitman – added that: “We take comfort that his work as a filmmaker brought laughter and happiness to countless others around the world. While we mourn privately, we hope these who knew him through his films will remember him always.”
Celebrating Ivan Reitman’s Film Legacy
Ivan Reitman started producing his first few films in the 70s. One of his most famous films was National Lampoon’s Animal House. After this film, he became a hit writer and director in the 80s. Stripes (1981) starring Bill Murray and Harold Ramis, was another one of his hit grossing films, making $85 million at the box office on a $10 million budget.
He followed those successes up with the infamous Ghostbusters, which became a pop-culture staple in movie history. It pulled in nearly $300 million at the box office. He would go on to direct the sequel, Ghostbusters II. He also worked closely with Arnold Schwarzengger on some projects such as: Twins, Kindergarten Cop, and Junior.
The success of Ivan Reitman would continue into the 21st century, as he worked on Evolution starring David Duchonvy and then directed My Super Ex-Girlfriend. He also wrote and directed No Strings Attached, which brought in nearly $150 million on a $25 million budget. His final motion picture was 2014’s Draft Day, starring Kevin Costner and Jennifer Garner, which was a sports drama.
He forever be known for his big, hilarious comedies and his movie about men fighting ghost for a living. His legacy will live on and be remembered forever. His great talent will be dearly missed.
