Not so long ago, at a newsstand not so far away, pictures of The Mandalorian season 2 resided.
Titan Magazine has recently published a special volume of their Star Wars Insiders Magazine, called Star Wars Insider Presents: Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season Two Collectors Edition Vol.1. Yeah, that’s a mouthful. So what exactly is Star Wars Insider Presents: Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season Two Collectors Edition Vol.1?

The short version: it’s a gorgeous art book.
The long version: the book isn’t very long.
Go Inside The World Of The Mandalorian For A Little While
If you’ve read (and I’m using the term loosely here) either of the two magazines Titan Magazine published for the first season, then you will already know what to expect from this one. If you have not then just know the magazine is simply a collection of art. That is all. No behind the scenes set shots. No interviews with art directors, designers, or producers. No insight into what went in to making the worlds and characters of the show. Just pictures.
96 pages of pictures, and it does not even cover the entirety of the season. Just the first four episodes, which you probably could have surmised from the volume one in the title. By contrast, The Art of Star Wars: The Mandalorian (Season Two) from Abrams Books is 256 pages filled not only with artwork from across the entire season, but also insights into creating the world and characters from the creative team including executive producers and showrunners Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni.
If you are a die hard Star Wars fan that wants to know all the ins and outs that went into creating the show, then that’s probably the book you want. The downside is it is probably three times as thick and about one and a half times as wide as Titan’s magazine, so collecting them takes up major space.
If you don’t care about the behind the scenes or design processes, and you just want a curated gathering of artwork from the show that will fit nicely on your bookshelf? Then, in that regard, Star Wars Insider Presents: Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season Two Collectors Edition Vol.1 does scratch that itch. The magazine, as stated before, only covers the first half of the season. That means there is no concept art of Ahsoka Tano, Boba Fett, Fennec Shand and Luke Skywalker.
If that is what you are looking for, you’ll have to wait a tad longer for volume two.
Star Wars Insider Presents: Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season Two Collectors Edition Vol.1 is split into nine sections:
- The Mandalorian
- The Child
- Worlds
- Beasts and Creatures
- Allies
- The Empire
- Vehicles and Ships
- Into Battle
- Mandalorian Novelties
Each section contains a combination of screenshots, concept art, and key art of their respective categories. Artwork of Din Djarin and Grogu make up the first two sections. Allies comprises of mostly art of “The Marshal” Cobb Vanth and Bo Katan and the rest of Clan Kryze. The Empire section is concept art of Imperial bases. Mandalorian Novelties is a small collection of cute chibi art of Grogu and Mando.
That is Star Wars Insider Presents: Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season Two Collectors Edition Vol.1 in a nut shell. Just like the magazine, there really is not much to tell. Just a magazine sized curation of screenshots and artwork from the first half of The Mandalorian Season 2. If you just want to check out some art, then the magazine might do the job, but if you want something more in depth, then you might have to look elsewhere.
