Now that the Golden Globes nominations have been announced, it’s time for some early predictions. Who will go home with a trophy?
After the un-televised ceremony last year, which happened due to a lot of incidents around the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the Golden Globes are back. After a bunch of changes at the institute and the addition of more than a hundred new members, the Golden Globes are back to being televised.
On December 12, 2022, the HFPA announced the nominees for the Film and Television categories, roughly a month before the winner ceremony on January 10, 2023. That makes it the perfect time to take a look at the freshly announced nominees and predict who will take home a trophy during the evening.

For this article, we focus on the Series categories and without further ado, let’s take a look at the nominees (those are ranked in alphabetical order, with my predicted winners stated below):
BEST DRAMA SERIES
Nominations: Better Call Saul, House of the Dragon, Ozark, Severance, The Crown
Predicted Winner: I think the highly acclaimed new Apple TV+ show Severance will take the win. The Crown underperformed with its nominations, just like Better Call Saul, House of the Dragon and Ozark doesn’t seem to be on anyone’s minds anymore, especially when talking about the possibility to win.
BEST COMEDY SERIES
Nominations: Abbot Elementary, Hacks, Only Murders in the Building, The Bear, Wednesday
Predicted Winner: The beloved and Emmy-winning sitcom Abbott Elementary seems like the obvious choice.
BEST TV MOVIE/LIMITED SERIES
Nominations: Black Bird, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Pam and Tommy, The Dropout, The White Lotus: Sicily
Predicted Winner: This award should go to Sicily as The White Lotus is the talk of the town.
BEST ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
Nominations: Adam Scott – Severance, Bob Odenkirk – Better Call Saul, Diego Luna – Andor, Jeff Bridges – The Old Man, Kevin Costner – Yellowstone
Predicted Winner: I think this Adam Scott’s to lose, even though he probably will be in a close race with Bob Odenkirk.
BEST ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES
Nominations: Emma D’Arcy – House of the Dragon, Hilary Swank – Alaska Daily, Imelda Staunton – The Crown, Laura Linney – Ozark, Zendaya – Euphoria
Predicted Winner: Even though the Golden Globes seemingly aren’t the biggest fans of Euphoria, I think Zendaya is just too strong to be ignored here.
BEST ACTOR IN A COMEDY/MUSICAL SERIES
Nominations: Bill Hader – Barry, Donald Glover – Atlanta, Jeremy Allen White – The Bear, Martin Short – Only Murders in the Building, Steve Martin – Only Murders in the Building
Predicted Winner: I think newcomer Jeremy Allen White will take the win here. While he has strong competitors in Bill Hader, who was snubbed at this year’s Emmys, and the two Only Murders actors, I think no one comes close to White. Hader seemingly isn’t on people’s radar anymore and Short and Martin are likely vote-splitting as every member likes one of the two more than the other, meaning that no one ever reaches enough votes for a win.
BEST ACTRESS IN A COMEDY/MUSICAL SERIES
Nominations: Jean Smart – Hacks, Jenna Ortega – Wednesday, Kaley Cuoco – The Flight Attendant, Quinta Brunson – Abbott Elementary
Predicted Winner: With all the love for Abbott Elementary, I think Quinta Brunson will take the win here, but I could see a world where Jenna Ortega surprises, with all the Wednesday hype happening right now.
BEST ACTOR IN A TV MOVIE/LIMITED SERIES
Nominations: Andrew Garfield – Under the Banner of Heaven, Colin Firth –The Staircase, Evan Peters – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Sebastian Stan – Pam and Tommy, Taron Egerton – Black Bird
Predicted Winner: It’s Evan Peters. Like, no contention. He is going to sweep this category all season.
BEST ACTRESS IN A TV MOVIE/LIMITED SERIES
Nominations: Amanda Seyfried – The Dropout, Jessica Chastain – George and Tammy, Julia Garner – Inventing Anna, Julia Roberts – Gaslit, Lily James – Pam and Tommy
Predicted Winner: Amanda Seyfried will most likely continue her Awards sweep for her performance in The Dropout.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A COMEDY/DRAMA SERIES
Nominations: Henry Winkler – Barry, John Lithgow – The Old Man, John Turturro – Severance, Jonathan Pryce – The Crown, Tyler James Williams – Abbott Elementary
Predicted Winner: This could be John Turturro’s to lose. His performance in Severance is beloved and with Severance likely winning Best Drama Series, he’d be the frontrunner.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A COMEDY/DRAMA SERIES
Nominations: Elizabeth Debicki – The Crown, Hannah Einbinder – Hacks, Janelle James – Abbott Elementary, Julia Garner – Ozark, Sheryl Lee Ralph – Abbott Elementary
Predicted Winner: After Sheryl Lee Ralph won the Emmy for her performance, it seems pretty likely that she’ll also win the Golden Globe.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A TV MOVIE/LIMITED SERIES
Nominations: Domnhnall Gleeson – The Patient, F. Murray Abraham – The White Lotus: Sicily, Paul Walter Hauser – Black Bird, Richard Jenkins – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Seth Rogen – Pam and Tommy
Predicted Winner: With all the acclaim surrounding The White Lotus, it seems likely that F. Murray Abraham will take home the award.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A TV MOVIE/LIMITED SERIES
Nominations: Aubrey Plaza – The White Lotus: Sicily, Claire Danes – Fleishman is in Trouble, Daisy Edgar-Jones – Under the Banner of Heaven, Jennifer Coolidge – The White Lotus: Sicily, Niecy Nash-Betts – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story
Predicted Winner: Just like in the Supporting Actor category above it seems more than likely that The White Lotus will keep its winning streak with a win for Jennifer Coolidge.
The Golden Globes take place on January 10, 2023.
