Sword Art Online Progressive

Sword Art Online Progressive is releasing the next installment adapting the light novel that dives deeper into the first story arc. Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Scherzo of Deep Night will be continuing the story of Kirito and Asuna as they are trapped in the VRMMORPG before they defeat the game to escape. The movie explores the stories from their experience during season 1 in the virtual world, which features in the reboot series of the initial story.

Sword Art Online is a light novel series by Reki Kawahara, winner of the 15th Dengeki Bunko Novel Grand prize. Published by Dengeki Bunko, the story revolves around the main character Kirito and his heroics as a player in Sword Art Online, a next-generation virtual reality massive-multiplayer online role-playing game. The light novel series has enjoyed massive popularity since Volume One was first published in April 2009, with cumulative worldwide sales topping 30 million copies by 2022.

The first film in the series, Aria of a Starless Night, a rebooted Aincrad arc seen from Asuna’s point of view, debuted at No. 1 at the weekend box office in Japan and was a long-running hit, staying in theatres nationwide for 10 weeks. And now, Aria’s sequel, Scherzo of Deep Night, will be coming to global theatres in February 2023, taking audiences on a journey back to where it all began!

Official Film Synopsis:

This may be a game, but it’s not something you play.

The world’s first VRMMORPG (Sword Art Online) became a game of death. Over a month has passed since 10,000 users were trapped inside the game world. Asuna, who cleared the first floor of the floating iron castle of Aincrad, joined up with Kirito and continued her journey to reach the top floor. With the support of female Information Broker Argo, clearing the floors seemed to be progressing smoothly, but…

Conflict erupts between two major guilds who should be working together – the top player groups ALS (the Aincrad Liberation Squad) and DKB (the Dragon Knights Brigade). And meanwhile, behind the scenes exists a mysterious figure pulling the strings….

In a dangerous battle of death, there is an assault that differs from the threat, and it will involve Asuna and Kirito…!

Run time: 100 minutes

The storyline of the Sword Art Online video game only lasts for half a season, which was odd considering the amount of time past in the show and the potential story left behind. Although the anime series moved on from the original game, it is fantastic that fans can explore more in-depth story relating to Kirito, Asuna, and their friends that were trapped in the VRMMORPG. The first half of the show is what captivated audiences so adding more details and experiences will give fans a chance to see a full look at what Reki Kawahara had envisioned.

To this day, many fans hope to experience this game as depicted one day but till then, the movies are the best way to explore this amazing world.

Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Scherzo of Deep Night will be releasing in theatres for UK & Ireland on 1st of February and US & Canada on February 3rd, 2023. To find out more about the latest Progressive movie, check out the official website using the following link

Long time fan of Tokusatsu fan since Power Rangers was first released in the 90s. Whereas most Superhero fans grew up with DC Comics and Marvel, my childhood was surrounded by releases from Saban Entertainment such as Beetleborgs, along with anime, and other various fads of the generation. Anime is also a great passion with Digimon, That Time I Was Reincarnated As A Slime, and Demon Slayer being significant favorites. It was the love of both Power Rangers and Digimon that led to the path of becoming a Senior Writer for The Illuminerdi.
