Mulan Character Posters Are Armed And Ready For Battle

Disney's live-action Mulan has released character posters in anticipation of its March 27th premiere date, and the film looks fierce and gritty.

Disney’s live-action Mulan, set to do honor to us all in less than two months, has viewers shaking with anticipation after the release of new character posters.

For those fans who are disappointed by the lack of Mushu and Li Shang, not to mention the iconic musical numbers, these posters may act as a salve to soothe our sorrows. This version of the story is certainly going to be different, much gritter and more realistic in its depiction of war. But its not without its magical elements either, given the sorceress who plays a prominent role in the cast.

A New Mulan For A New Age

The posters depict the cast in the following order: Yifei Liu as Mulan, Donnie Yen as Commander Tung, Gong Li as Xianniang, Jason Scott Lee as Böri Khan, Jet Li as the Emperor, and Yosan An as Cheng Honghui. Check them out below:

Perhaps the coolest part about these posters is how each weapon shows the reflection of Mulan herself, acknowledging not only her prowess but that every one of these characters will link back to her. Their somber expression also speak to the tone that one can expect, which unfortunately doesn’t lend itself to belting out “I’ll Make A Man Out Of You.” Thankfully, the trailer made up for it by keeping the musical score.

Finally, if you haven’t read the film’s synopsis, take a look here:

Acclaimed filmmaker Niki Caro brings the epic tale of China’s legendary warrior to life in Disney’s “Mulan,” in which a fearless young woman risks everything out of love for her family and her country to become one of the greatest warriors China has ever known. When the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army to defend the country from Northern invaders, Hua Mulan, the eldest daughter of an honored warrior, steps in to take the place of her ailing father.

Masquerading as a man, Hua Jun, she is tested every step of the way and must harness her inner-strength and embrace her true potential. It is an epic journey that will transform her into an honored warrior and earn her the respect of a grateful nation…and a proud father.

Mulan features a celebrated international cast that includes: Yifei Liu as Mulan; Donnie Yen as Commander Tung; Jason Scott Lee as Böri Khan; Yoson An as Cheng Honghui; with Gong Li as Xianniang and Jet Li as the Emperor. The film is directed by Niki Caro from a screenplay by Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver and Lauren Hynek & Elizabeth Martin, suggested by the narrative poem “The Ballad of Mulan.” The producers are Jason Reed, Chris Bender and Jake Weiner, with Bill Kong, Barrie M. Osborne, Tim Coddington and Mario Iscovich serving as executive producers.
