Apple TV+ premieres the new trailer for its upcoming mini-series, Defending Jacob.
Chris Evans is headed to TV in a leading role for the first time with a legal drama, Defending Jacob, produced by Paramount Television for Apple TV. The show is based on the best-selling American crime-drama novel of the same name, written by novelist William Landay. The book was published in January 2012 by Random House.
The Avengers’ Chris Evans headlines the project, who we last saw in the hit film, Knives Out, last November. Evans is also joined by his Knives Out co-star Jaeden Martell in this series. Earlier this year Apple TV+ announced an Emmy-qualifying release date of April 24th.

Defending Jacob tells the story of assistant district attorney Andy Barber (Evans) in Massachusetts whose whole life is turned upside down when his 14-year old son, Jacob (Jaeden Martell) is accused of murdering a classmate. As the evidence begins to pile up, he decides to take the case into his own hands in order to protect his son. Michelle Dockery plays Evans’ wife, Laurie, who endures her own isolation and trauma in the wake of Jacob’s accusation.
Defending Jacob Trailer
It may seem like the plot of the series is straightforward, but it’s not. The novel offers many twists and takes some dark turns. Andy feels his only job is trying to protect his kid, but as a lawyer he has boundaries. However, he chooses not to follow them for his son. For Jacob, there’s no going back to normal, this will follow him around for the rest of his life. Finally, the trailer ends with J.K. Simmons dropping the last punchline to Evans asking if he chooses to be a good man or a good father is so cool.
The whole premise of the series is so intriguing. The cinematography of the show has a dark tone which reflects the book accurately. The dialogue in the trailer is phenomenal. The trailer didn’t give away much but it gives the taste of intense drama and trauma that the family will go through their situation. The performance of the cast, based on the trailer is amazing.

This book is adapted by the writer Mark Bomback into a mini-series with Morton Tyldum of Intimation Game directing the series. With Chris Evans serving as one of the executive producers, along with Adam Shulman, Rosalie Swedlin, and Morten Tylduby. The series also stars Cherry Jones, Michelle Dockery, Pablo Schreiber, Betty Gabriel, Sakina Jaffrey, and J.K. Simmons.
The Captain America star is known for his acting skills and Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery is always wonderful. But also the performance that is most interesting to notice in the trailer is given by IT star Jaeden Martell. Jaeden has a complex acting challenge in his role as Jacob. Whether or not he committed the crime is unknown, but his parents believe he is innocent and they fight to prove his innocence in court.

It’s not surprising that the one who dominates the trailer is Evans. This series has the potential to be successful and no doubt future Emmy campaigns will have its focus on him. The show will be airing on Apple TV+, home of shows like The Morning Show, For All Mankind, See, Servant, Dickinson, Little America and their reboot of Amazing Stories from Steven Spielberg.
Defending Jacob is an eight-episode series airing on Apple TV+ service starting from April 24. The first three episodes releases on the premiere date and the remaining episodes will be available each Friday that follows.
