Katee Sackhoff will bring her Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels character Bo-Katan Kryze to life in the second season of The Mandalorian.

According to SlashFilm, Katee Sackhoff will be reprising the role of Bo-Katan Kryze in a move that we hope will be able to shed some light on how Moff Gideon got a hold of the Darksaber and what happened during the “purge of Mandalore”.

Fans of the animated series will know that Bo-Katan has been an important part of Mandalore’s history and has been a key part of liberating the planet multiple times.

Katee Sackhoff’s Character May Be The Key To Mandalore

Fans have been speculating that Katee Sackhoff could make an appearance on The Mandalorian and she was asked by DiscussingFilm about Bo-Katan possibly making her live action debut earlier this year. Sackhoff then said:

“I mean, who wouldn’t! …There are people that are going to jump to conclusions that Bo is going to be in The Mandalorian because on paper, it does make sense. But you know, we’ll just have to wait and see and cross all my fingers and toes. You never know.”

Bo-Katan was first introduced in the fourth season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars as the second in command to leader Pre Vizsla (voiced by The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau) of the radical Mandalorian group Death Watch. Bo-Katan is the sister of pacifist former leader Duchess Satine Kryze. She didn’t agree with her sister’s belief in pacifism instead wanting Mandalore to continue to honor their past as warriors.

Death Watch made a deal with Darth Maul to take control of Mandalore, but shortly after taking over Maul killed Pre Viszla with the Darksaber thus becoming the new ruler. Bo-Katan fought against Maul refusing to let the outsider be the ruler of Mandalore.

Bo-Katan was a big part of the final half of the last season of The Clone Wars when she sought help from the former Jedi padawan Ahsoka Tano in convincing the Jedi order and Republic to help her overthrow Maul. Ahsoka and a number of clone troopers went with Bo-Katan to help her in the Siege of Mandalore where they managed to capture Maul and return the planet to Mandalorian control.

She was named Regent of Mandalore for a short time after that, but she refused to cooperate with the Empire and was betrayed and overthrown by Clan Saxon. Clan Saxon, who was loyal to the Empire, replaced her as the leaders of Mandalore with Gar Saxon acting as Viceroy of Mandalore, but under Imperial control.

Sabine Wren returned to Mandalore with the Darksaber during Star Wars: Rebels and with the help of Clan Wren and other Mandalorians including Bo-Katan they managed to overthrow the leaders loyal to the Empire. Bo-Katan was named the leader of Mandalore when Sabine gave her the Darksaber and Clan Wren along with other Clans vowed to follow her. This was the last we saw of Bo-Katan and Mandalore.

In the first season of The Mandalorian, it is mentioned that Mandalorians were decimated in something called the “purge of Mandalore”. Even after the fall of the Empire the few Mandalorians left seem to be in hiding trying not to draw attention to themselves unless absolutely necessary.

In the time between Rebels and The Mandalorian a lot has happened to the people of Mandalore, and hopefully with Bo-Katan making an appearance more of that history can be revealed.  Knowing the Moff Gideon now has the Darksaber there is a chance that Bo-Katan could be appearing in flashbacks, as traditionally one does not get the Darksaber without defeating the previous owner in combat.

Bo-Katan, much like Ahsoka Tano and Captain Rex, has had her story continue through more than one Dave Filoni Star Wars series and hopefully we will get to see what happened to her after she became the leader of Mandalore once again. Filoni was one of the creators of Star Wars: Rebels and was the supervising director of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Filoni also serves as writer, director, and executive producer of The Mandalorian

There is no word on how prominent Sackhoff’s role will be in the upcoming season of The Manadlorian at this time. Ahsoka Tano will be making her live action debut and Temuera Morrison will be appearing as Boba Fett, although fans speculate he may also be playing the fan favorite Clone trooper and rebel fighter Captain Rex. Could we also see the young Madalorian Sabine Wren from Rebels?

At the end of the animated series, Sabine was alive after the fall of the Empire and she seemed to be going to search for the missing Jedi Ezra Bridger with the help of Ahsoka. It will be interesting to see whether or not Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan shows up in flashbacks or if she appears at the same time as her once ally Ahsoka Tano or in an entirely different way. The second season of The Mandalorian is set to hit Disney+ this October.

Are you excited to see Katee Sackhoff play Bo-Katan in The Mandalorian? What do you think about the animated Star Wars characters like Bo Katan and Ahsoka making their live action debuts? How do you think Bo-Katan will play into the second season of The Mandalorian?
