The Legends of Tomorrow panel, after introducing the panelists executive producers Phil Klemmer, Keto Shimizu, and Grainne Godfree, and cast members Caity Lotz, Nick Zano, Matt Ryan, Tala Ashe, Jes Macallan, Olivia Swann, Amy Louise Pemberton, and Shayan Sobhian, began with the season 5 gag reel full of hilarious antics and line flubs. After the newest cast members talked a bit about what it was like to join the cast and how welcoming it felt.

Tala Ashe, who plays Zari, talked a bit about Zari 2.0 being the only Zari on the team at the end of Legends of Tomorrow season 5. “Honestly I do have mixed feelings about it because I really do love both Zari 1.0 and 2.0…I’m excited about developing 2.0 further. But yeah, it was, it was sad, it was sad to say goodbye to 1.0.”

Shayan Sobhian, now a series regular as Behrad, talked a bit about wanting to dive more into the sibling relationship between Behrad and Zari. “Exploring what it was like growing up together. Behrad constantly being in the shadow of his older sister who just was amazing at everything.”

According to executive producer Keto Shimizu, Shayan will get his wish, “We have a great episode, I think it’s number two actually where we really get into exactly that, exactly what it was like for you, Behrad, to grow up in the shadow of your sister and, you know, having to establish sort of your own thing and then you’re put in a time period and an undercover identity where you kind of get to do that thing and she’s the outsider.”

Keto continued, “And she’s the one who’s flummoxed and doesn’t know what’s going on and you kind of have to teach her a thing or two. And like it’s a really fun, you know, opportunity for us to tell a story that is just about the sibling dynamic without the fraughtness of life or death, or which one are you, or trying to bring someone back to life.”

Matt Ryan talked about what he enjoyed about Constatine’s journey in Legends of Tomorrow season 5, “Going on that journey with the Astra Logue story is such a huge part of the whole Constantine canon and the comic books and in the original show, and then what we’ve done with it on Legends and what the guys have written in, and to kind of get to a place where that is wrapped up is really, really satisfying. And John is happy, you know, which kind of gives me fear. A quaking fear in my boots, because, you know, how long does John stay happy for?”

Matt also explained the impact Legends of Tomorrow has had on his life, “For me this is what’s, what’s kept me playing Constantine. And being able to explore that character in ways that I never thought I would ever.”

Olivia Swann, new series regular as Astra Logue, talked a bit about the new living arrangements for her character in the next season of Legends of Tomorrow. “If you put Astra and John living together peacefully, I feel like maybe isn’t going to happen. So, I think that it will be really fun to see them trying to cohabitate day in day out. Which is something that, is it going to be possible? I don’t know.” Matt chimed in, “I love the idea of John being unhappy about him being happy.”

LEGENDS OF TOMORROW PRODUCERS TEASE SARA MISSING FROM THE WAVERIDER AND A NEW LEGEND IN SEASON 6

At the end of the Legends of Tomorrow season finale last year, Sara (Caity Lotz) was abducted by aliens without anyone noticing. The executive producers talked a bit about what fans can expect to see next season.

Grainne Godfree said “Well, I don’t know if we want to spoil too much, but I’ll say with Sara away it’s like the kids kind of go crazy. I feel like Sara’s kind of one of the grounding influences on the show…everyone’s going a little bonkers in her absence. So, we really looked at this season in terms of, ‘What would it do to people to have Sara missing?’”

Phil Klemmer added “Yeah, and I think, Ava obviously would be a worthy replacement. But she obviously takes Sara’s absence the hardest and she starts to, you know, get a little bit frayed around the edges as well. So, it, it leaves a bit of a power vacuum, which, you know, unlikely people have to step up to fill.”

But Keto Shimway was quick to reassure Legends of Tomorrow fans, “Don’t worry we’re not, we’re not losing Sara from this story. We will be tracking her adventure, even as she is separated from the team.”

It also looks like a new Legend will be boarding the waverider in season 6, Grainne described the new character. “She is a young Latinx woman from Texas who was kidnapped by aliens and has kind of got a thirst for vengeance. And so she’s going to come up to the ship and, you know, she’s not going to be the lovable losers that we normally have. She’s going to be someone who is pretty tough and gives it to the other Legends and they’re going to all have to react to her. And I think it’s going to throw them off their feet a little bit.”

Keto talked about how Legends of Tomorrow will take on aliens in the upcoming season. “We’re trying to really lean into some genres, like alien genres. Which is, you know, not, not, Supergirl does their own version of aliens and we’re really trying to make it feel and look different. We’re really, you know, putting our own stamp on it.”

Nate Heywood (Nick Zano) has gone through the ringer during his time on Legends of Tomorrow, losing his grandfather and father as well as his girlfriends Amaya and Zari 1.0. Keto talked a bit about how that will be affecting him, “It’s been a tough, tough run for Nate. And, you know, someone who always tries to be like the cool guy, who like puts his positive spin on things like ‘We’re going to be ok, it’s going to be fine.’ It’s getting harder and harder for him to do that.”
