Chris Pine is in negotiations to star in John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein’s upcoming Dungeons & Dragons movie and The Illuminerdi has learned details about the character Chris Pine will be playing.
Not many details are known about the film other than the fact that it will be based off of the popular table top role-playing game, that was originally published in 1974. Dungeons & Dragons along with the company that first created the game were acquired by Wizards of the Coast in 1997. Wizards of the Coast have been a hugely important part of establishing Dungeons & Dragons as it is today. Wizards of the Coast became a subsidiary of Hasbro in 1999.

Dungeons & Dragons is a table top role-playing game where each player gets to create their own character to defeat monsters, hunt for treasure and more while the Dungeon Master narrates the world the players are adventuring in and playing the characters that the players run into along the way. The Dungeons & Dragons film is obviously based on the game and the lead character looks like he fits right into the spirit of the game.
CHRIS PINE’S DUNGEONS & DRAGONS CHARACTER
Chris Pine is in negotiations the play the lead character Edgin who is in his 30s-late 40s. Edgin is described as down on his luck and not the classic hero, but still lovable. Edgin is comedic, but with demons. Humor is clearly an important part of this character, with parallels drawn to Peter Quill from Guardians of the Galaxy.
What is noticeable to anyone who has played Dungeons & Dragons and built their own character is that no race (i.e. human, elf, gnome, etc.) is listed, nor is a class (fighter, druid, rogue, etc.). The race and class of a character are a vital part of what the character is able to do and who they are.
Chris Pine Character Speculation Based On Dungeons & Dragons Logic
Chris Pine’s character lists neither the class nor race, but based on the description it’s possible to speculate. Based on the fact that a race is not listed, one could speculate that the character is likely a human which would make sense to help the audience connect to him. As is the case in most fantasy films, the main character is often humanoid.
Now, class would be a bit more difficult to figure out. However, the comparison to Peter Quill from Guardians of the Galaxy and the fact that the character is not a typical hero means Edgin could potentially be a rogue. Rogues are scoundrels who use skill and trickery to obtain their goal and defeat their enemies. Mind you this is speculation so it could turn out that Edgin falls into a completely different class and race, so it will be interesting to find out who Edgin turns out to be in the Dungeons & Dragons film.
Chris Pine is currently in negotiations for the lead and he seems like a perfect fit as someone who can hold the weight of a franchise. Edgin is described as an unlikely hero with comedy being a key element of his character. Chris Pine has been an integral part of building franchises before with the Star Trek film franchise and the Wonder Woman franchise.

Chris Pine will return in Wonder Woman 1984 this Christmas as Steve Trevor which fans can watch on HBO Max. This Dungeons & Dragons film looks to be Paramount and Hasbro setting up a franchise that they hope grows and Chris Pine seems like an ideal actor to take on that responsibility.
The Dungeons & Dragons film is set to begin production early next year in Belfast, Ireland. Dungeons & Dragons is written by Michael Gilio though, directors Goldstein and Daley have said they are working off the latest version of the script that they have written based on Gilio’s script. Dungeons & Dragons will be directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley from Paramount Pictures Studio and the production company Hasbro Inc.
