Star Wars: The High Republic is a massive epic story that will span different literary platforms for years to come. Star Wars: The High Republic will cover an entirely new era two centuries before the Skywalker Saga, an era that until now has not been explored. The mega-story’s first installment of books and comics was launched January 5, 2021. To celebrate this Star Wars hosted a Star Wars: The High Republic Livestream Launch and during the stream a number of new books were announced.

Star Wars: The High Republic is split up into three phases. Phase 1: Light of the Jedi, Phase 2: Quest of the Jedi, and Phase 3: Trials of the Jedi. The first phase will be the releases throughout 2021 and into 2022, though Lucasfilm Publishing creative director Michael Siglain would not specify when in 2022 Phase 1 would end. He did say that during Phase 1 there will be a steady stream of new content be it books, comics, or serialized stories in magazines on a monthly basis.

This expansive project will not only be told through books and comics, but serialized stories in the Star Wars Insider magazine. These stories will begin by being set on the Starlight Station with the first two stories being written by Charles Soule. Soule explained that the first story, titled “Go Together” is a prologue of sorts to his first Star Wars: The High Republic novel, Light of the Jedi. His second story will feature the same characters and be set in the immediate aftermath of the events of Light of the Jedi. Both stories will follow two non-Jedi characters from Light of the Jedi, Joss and Pikka Adren on their own adventure.

The serialized stories will continue to follow characters on the Starlight Station with Cavan Scott and Justina Ireland writing the next installments. The stories will follow non-Jedi characters, denizens on the station showing the different departments. A new character will be introduced in the third story, which will be written by Cavan Scott, named Velko who is also a new species to Star Wars. Velko is the first aide to the Republic head of the station and will need to navigate this new job on this huge ship while also working with the Jedi whom she is unfamiliar with.

STAR WARS: THE HIGH REPUBLIC SECOND INSTALLMENT OF NOVELS AND COMICS

Cavan Scott also has a new novel being released June 29, 2021 called The Rising Storm. The Rising Storm will follow the Jedi Stellan Gios as Avar Kriss will be busy in the Marvel comics. The Rising Storm will take place during Chancellor Lina Soh’s Republic Fair, similar to the real life World’s Fair, which is meant to show off the advancements, progress, and prosperity of the High Republic.

A new character will also be introduced, Ty Yorrick. Scott described Ty Yorrick as “a slightly murky character. We’re describing her as a saber for hire. She’s a monster hunter.” Ty Yorrick will also be the focus of an upcoming graphic novel by Cavan Scott, The Monster of Temple Peak. This graphic novel will show some of Ty’s origins before The Rising Storm as well as her views on the universe and the Jedi.

Justina Ireland announced two upcoming projects which includes an upcoming young adult novel, Out of the Shadows. Out of the Shadows will follow Vernestra Rwoh the 16-year-old Jedi knight, who is the focus of Ireland’s first Star Wars: The High Republic novel, as well as new characters. Out of the Shadows is set to be released this summer.

Ireland also announced an upcoming Manga, The Edge of Balance. Ireland is working with Japanese author Shima Shinya and artist Mizuki Sakakibara on this manga, her excitement was palpable because as Ireland explains it, “The Japanese author is writing the script. So it’s going to be authentically Star Wars, but also authentically manga.” The Edge of Balance will follow the Jedi outpost on a planet that does not have a strong Republic presence. This will show the Jedi out among the people which is something that fans have not truly experienced before.

Daniel José Older also talked about his upcoming middle grade novel, Race To Crashpoint Tower which will take place at the same time as The Rising Storm during the Republic Fair. Race To Crashpoint Tower will follow two Padawans, Lula Talisola from the IDW comics and Ramjo Maram. Race To Crashpoint Tower will show the audiences more of Lula Talisola’s inner character as she spends time with Vernestra Rowh a Jedi knight who isn’t much older than she is.

Ramjo Maram is a Jedi Padawan who is very mechanically minded which manifests in his force abilities and he would rather spend time tinkering and fixing things in his garage than dealing with the “pomp and circumstance of the Jedi.” Ramjo Maram lives on the planet that the Republic Fair takes place which will be his first glimpse into the larger galaxy as it comes to him.

Ramjo Maram has a team of Bonbraks who works with him as well as his droid V-18. Ramjo Maram needed to paint V-18 purple because he looks so similar to a crate and was constantly being loaded onto star fighters and flown off planet. Ty Yorrick will also appear in this Star Wars: The High Republic novel.
