Behind The Mask Of Marvel’s Heroes
Marvel Entertainment has unveiled a new trailer for a documentary special, Marvel’s Behind the Mask, that is set to release Friday, February 12th on Disney+.
The documentary will be about the various comic book artists who created the superheroes we know today, as well as exploring the idea why many fans and readers connect with Marvel’s superheroes.
The video begins with Marvel creative director Joe Quesada recounting his time when he started working at Marvel, trying to create the perfect superhero. He explains:
“I asked Stan Lee, ‘How do you create the perfect Marvel character?’ Stan Lee used Spiderman to explain his point by saying, “Imagine Spider-Man. It’s just a red and blue suit jumping off a building. But, tell me who he is, tell me what his problems are, and now, when he flies off that building, we’re in that suit.”
It goes on to explore the idea that what makes a superhero, it’s not only their suit or powers, but who is underneath the mask.
Behind The Mask is directed by Michael Jacobs and will feature guests from across Marvel’s Legacy, that includes giving us a behind the scenes look from the artists and writers who created beloved characters like Black Panther, Ms. Marvel, the X-Men, Miles Morales, Captain Marvel, and many other characters from Marvel. The film will highlight the impact the Marvel Universe had on the pop culture landscape as well as explain why those characters resonate so much with fans.
Comic book fans will be delighted to see Disney using their streaming platform to traverse more of the history of the comics. Marvel had previously released a documentary series known as Marvel 616, that spotlights different aspects of the company’s legacy on the Marvel Universe as it intersects with the world around us. Even if you’re a fan of the MCU movies, you will gain a larger appreciation of the creative process behind your favorite heroes, and learning how they came to be will make you cherish the MCU even more.
Marvel’s Behind the Mask will premiere on Disney+ next Friday, February 12th.
