Will Ospreay wins the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship and makes his intentions known as he’s looking for revenge.
NJPW Sakura Genesis event at Ryogoku Sumo Hall saw Will Ospreay take on the then IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Kota Ibushi. Ospreay took out Ibushi to become the new World Heavyweight Champion. Now Ospreay is a dual champion as he is also the IWGP Intercontinental Champion, but the two belts are merging into one championship as signified by the new design.
Will Ospreay Battles A Titan
In the past two years the two men have met four times, but this time was an absolute war. Ibushi hit two Kamigoye knee strikes one after another and still Will Ospreay kicked out. I want to lay down for a three count just thinking about one Kamigoye. However, not to be outdone, Ospreay had to hit Ibushi with a running knee, the Hidden Blade and Stormbreaker just to put him away.

This is Ospreay’s first time as the World Heavyweight Champion. After the match Ibushi got the crap beat out of him by Ospreay’s United Empire faction. Jeff Cobb hit Ibushi with a huge Tour of the Islands. Bringing in the World Heavyweight Championship wasn’t the only big thing which happened for the faction.
After a losing streak of sorts as of late Toa Henare joined the faction. NJPW should be on the lookout for what’s yet to come from Henare.
A New Challenger…Wait Two New Challengers Enter The Ring
Once Ospreay got his fill of humiliating Ibushi he decided to call out a big opponent. He called out none other than the Rainmaker himself, Kazuchika Okada. Ospreay said his story isn’t over and wants to avenge his loss to Okada from Wrestle Kingdom 15.
However, before Okada could accept the challenge a new opponent entered the ring. Shingo Takagi snatched the mic out of Okada’s hand and issued his own challenge. Takagi reminded everyone he beat Okada in the first round of the 2021 New Japan Cup. Thus he thinks he should get the first shot at Ospreay’s IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.

As of right now we don’t know if this will be the first title defense for Ospreay, but I would bet some money on it happening before the Okada match.
Time will only tell if Ospreay has what he takes to hold onto the championship or if he will be a passover champion.
What do you think of Will Ospreay winning the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship? Do you think Ospreay will be a good champion? Who do you want Ospreay to face first, Okada or Takagi? Who else in NJPW do you want to see Ospreay face to defend his championship? Drop a few comments below and let us know what you think.
