Monday Makes Full Use Of Its Leads

monday cast

Sebastian Stan is currently on a globe trotting adventure, to fight for the legacy of Captain America in the highly successful Marvel Studios Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but he also has an independent drama coming up that will certainly be a highlight for his fans. He co-stars alongside Denise Gough in a relationship drama set in Greece and gets to show a different side of him than with his famous role as James “Bucky” Barnes in the MCU.

Monday shines through the electrifying chemistry between Stan and Gough. They play off each other really well and you absolutely buy their relationship. They both deliver really charming performances. The movie takes place in Greece and is able to convey this nice summer feeling, trough its beautiful locations and warm cinematography. In a pandemic where travelling isn’t really allowed, its a great way to escape for two hours.

When we look at the screenplay it plays with the average relationship drama tropes and even has one or two clichés in it, but the more dramatic parts still hit. The directing by Argyris Papadimitropoulos is really solid, but most of the movie relies on our two leads and that’s okay as they both deliver.

Monday doesn’t reinvent the genre, but it makes up for it thanks to charming leads and a sunny setting. It will for sure find its audience and if the trailer appeals to you, it’s worth checking out.

3/5

Monday will be released in theatres and on VOD on April 16, 2021 and is Rated R for sexual content, nudity/graphic nudity, drug use, and pervasive language. It is directed by Argyris Papadimitropoulos and stars: Sebastian Stan, Denise Gough, Dominique Tipper and Yorgos Pirpassopoulos.
