John Cena has teased a possible return match with a NXT wrestler via Instagram.
The WWE Universe hasn’t seen Cena wrestle since last year’s WrestleMania where he faced off against Bray Wyatt/The Fiend. However, we haven’t seen him wrestle a regular schedule since 2018, only wrestling sporadically and on special occasions since. Cena has focused on acting and his absence has not gone unnoticed by fans and WWE wrestlers.
John Cena’s absence has led to speculation as to when, or if, he will ever come back for at least one more match. A NXT wrestler has taken it upon himself to try and draw Cena back to the WWE universe.
Enter Karrion Kross To Issue A Challenge To John Cena
Karrion Kross is the NXT Champion after defeating Finn Balor at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver. On Friday a fan asked if Kross would want to be John Cena’s retirement match with Kross responding “I would be honored…And VERY ready.” Kross later admitted he would also like to see Cena return full-time

On Sunday Kross posted a picture of John Cena just to tease the possible match even further. However, Cena must have heard the rumblings of an open challenge and could let a challenge go unacknowledged. Cena posted a picture of Kross as an acknowledgement of the challenge. Neither put any text in their posts or any further explanation of whether this match will happen.
The internet is obviously buzzing with this possible matchup. To me this is just two wrestlers having fun with each other. Obviously every young wrestler would love a match with John Cena and the superstar would probably love to pass the torch of sorts to a young up-and-coming wrestler. However, Cena hasn’t said anything about retiring from wrestling, so he may not be ready to pass the torch just yet. This is just two guys teasing wrestling fans and nothing may ever come of this.
WWE Gives This Some Creditability
However, WWE posted an article on their website about this situation. This gives this possible match some more credibility. If this match was something that would never happen, then WWE wouldn’t say anything about it. If we hear that Cena is going to the Capitol Wrestling Center then we will see this feud. However, I personally don’t think this will turn into a match, at least not anytime soon. Time will tell if we will see these two wrestlers will faceoff.
