If you are hoping to get a Playstation 5 later this year, it is best to continue to save up money for it. Since the PS5’s release in November of 2020, Sony has been suffering from a huge shortage due to the pandemic. Although many retailers have been announcing restocks over the past several months, scalpers and cryptocurrency miners continue to buy up all the consoles.
PS5 Production Complications
A couple of weeks ago, as reported by Screen Rant, Playstation CEO Jim Ryan, stated that the PS5 stock shortage could end at the end of this year, stating that:
“There are several reasons why the PS5 was hard to come by. Supply under the new coronavirus was very complicated, and we had to limit distribution to online. The supply and demand for semiconductors is also tight worldwide. We are asking our suppliers to allow us to increase production, which will flow into the market this year.”
Unfortunately, this is no longer the case. According to both Screen Rant and Bloomberg, Sony Interactive told analysts to expect the demand to remain high even with additional PS5 units being produced. FoxConn, the manufacturer of today’s console parts braced the public for a short supply of Playstation 5’s until 2022.
As stated before, if you are trying to save up to buy a Playstation 5, continue to save up.
Right now, there are not a lot of upcoming blockbuster releases for the Playstation 5. Although many of the games that have came out recently such as the much anticipated Resident Evil 8 and Returnal, many of the games on Playstation 5 that are on PSN and game stores, can be also be played on the Playstation 4.

Yes, It is great to see how Crash Bandicoot or Nioh looks graphically different on the PS5 compared to the PS4, however it is the same game. On the flip side of the argument, Sony did announce that a dozen games that are coming out later in the year – in fact more than 25 this year alone as reported on by The Verge, such as Horizon: Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7 and God of War 5: Ragnarok. Plus Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is set to release next month.
So for those who have already bought their Playstation 5’s you are in luck. Overall, time will tell what happens when it comes to the console’s production and getting more of them on the shelves before the holiday season. Just do not be THAT person that will buy one off a scalper for about a $1000 dollars.
