Spider-Man: Far From Home’s Jake Gyllenhaal has been formally offered the starring role in the remake of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot.
Stephen King may be known as a world-famous author, but his works have taken the entertainment industry by storm for most of the last few decades. Nearly 50 movie adaptations have come to screen from an even higher number of novels that he’s penned over the past 50 years, and his stories continue to be immensely popular with every new outing.
Particularly in recent years, movie adaptations from his books have come to wild success in both theaters and the streaming world amongst critics and fans. This includes blockbusters like Matthew McConaghey’s The Dark Tower, both of director Andy Muschietti’s It films, Ewan McGregor’s Doctor Sleep and countless others.
One of the more high profile releases based off King’s work to come over the next few years will be a reimagination of Salem’s Lot. This book was King’s second novel ever that he released in 1975, and it’s been brought to life on screen in multiple forms on TV in years past.
In 2019, New Line Cinema announced that they were making a new version of this movie to release in theaters with Aquaman director James Wan serving as a co-producer. Gary Dauberman will also play triple-duty by acting as a producer as well as the director and writer for the film.
Jake Gyllenhaal Can Join Salem’s Lot If He Chooses
We at The Illuminerdi have some exciting information for the pre-production of Salem’s Lot, which we’re happy to share with you right now!
Our sources have learned that there is currently a formal offer out to Hollywood star Jake Gyllenhaal to play the leading role of Ben Mears in the new Salem’s Lot movie. Mears is described as a man with a lot of miles on him, similar to how he’s been portrayed in past outings.

The team also wants Academy Award-winner Christoph Waltz as their top choice for the role of Straker, although it’s not clear if he has actually been approached by the studio. Straker is described as an otherworldly man with a mysterious way about him on the outside, being a vampire set to help take over Jerusalem’s Lot.
Salem’s Lot is also looking to begin filming this September, although no release date has been set yet.
As is the case with all of our pre-production exclusives, we are only reporting on the facts on hand and an offer is far from a finished deal, or even a clear indication that Gyllenhaal’s camp is interested in the project. Regardless, it’s an exciting sign to see the team shooting for such impressive names in the entertainment industry.

Jake Gyllenhaal has some impressive titles under his belt like the critically acclaimed Brokeback Mountain and Nightcrawler, and he’s taken on the world of superhero movies as well by playing Mysterio in 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home. Should he take this role, it would give him the chance to give a new and exciting take on a classic Stephen King story.
It will likely be some time before any progress is made on production details or casting, the earliest moves are being made to develop something special.
