What If…? has just aired what is possibly its most anticipated episode in the series and, personally, I thought it was fantastic.
Sentimentality runs high in this episode, as it includes T’Challa, voiced by the late Chadwick Boseman in his last ever performance. This episode explores what would happen if T’Challa, not Peter Quill, was kidnapped by Yondu’s Ravager Clan.

In the first five minutes, there is some very funny dialogue between T’Challa and Korath (voiced by Djimon Hounsou, who gives a standout performance in this episode). Michael Rooker reprises his role as Yondu, and his performance is another highlight, proving Marvel still knows what it takes to have scene-stealing supporting characters.
T’Challa Brings The Heat To What If…?
Head writer and executive producer Ashley C. Bradley and her writing team did an outstanding job on this episode. I found the writing to be clever, imaginative and believable. Without giving too much away, we learn that T’Challa, as Star-Lord, is a galactic version of Robin Hood, stealing from the rich to help the poor.
The writers were breaking new ground in this storyline and the fans will be delighted by some of the characters that were included in this episode in very unexpected ways. Keep an eye out for the not so menacing Thanos, once again voiced by the talented Josh Brolin. Another nice touch was the way the writers mirrored the sacred connection that Peter Quill had with his Walkman to T’Challa’s Wakandan necklace, the last vestiges of what they both had from their time on Earth.
I have nothing but good things to say about this episode. The voice acting was vastly improved from the first episode and the cosmic setting was better suited to this animation style. The writing and humour were on point and elicited multiple genuine laughs out of me.
Lastly, Boseman’s sudden and tragic passing was a blow to fans so seeing him return, one final time in What If…? is sure to evoke some feelings. T’Challa will be featured in three more episodes but I can’t see any of them topping this one. I watched this episode four times and couldn’t find one thing to criticize.
For all the reasons I already touched on, I am giving this episode a perfect score of 10/10! What did you think of this What If…? episode? Let me know!
