After the official What If..? Twitter account unveiled two posters yesterday, Mark Ruffalo has “leaked” a brand new clip for this week’s episode. The clip teases the MCU debut of the Marvel Zombies comic storyline, as well as what could very well be the darkest entry in the MCU to date.
What If Iron Man Took a Bite Out of The Big Apple?
The clip itself shows Bruce – seemingly fresh out of being delivered a Thanos-sized beating in the beginning of Infinity War – exiting the Sanctum Sanctorum, only to be met by Cull Obsidian and Ebony Maw. As well as a zombified Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and Wong. The clip ends with the trio teleporting in and devastating the Black Order duo.
Check out the clip below:
The most interesting aspect to this 80-second clip is where in the timeline this episode appears to take place. While there isn’t any indication so far as to where the zombie virus came from (or what the nexus event would be), this episode seems to take place during the same time as Infinity War.
Aside from the Black Order’s appearance and Iron Man wearing the Mark 52 armor, in the clip we can see Bruce exiting the Sanctum with the same hole in the staircase he made upon his entry in the film.

In a strange twist on the film, however, we see him donning clothes that seem identical to those worn in Kamar Taj, featured in Doctor Strange’s solo film, meaning there was some time in between his crash landing and the Black Order’s arrival.
The streets surrounding the Sanctum also appears to be in a much worse state of ruin than it was in the 2018 epic.

In addition to this clip, Marvel also uploaded an additional 30 second teaser to Twitter, which shows off more of the carnage yet to come in the episode (and what seems to be the untimely demise of certain heroes).
This episode seems to be one of the most packed to date, with other trailers showing off zombified versions of Hawkeye and Captain America, as well as the debut of Spider-Man in the series (albeit not voiced by Tom Holland).
Episode 5 of What If…? debuts tomorrow, so be sure to stay tuned to The Illuminerdi for more coverage on the series, and everything Marvel and comic book related! Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below or over on our social media!
