The trailer for The Flash’s season 8 crossover event was revealed today and featured many returning faces from across the Arrowverse.

The trailer shows off Despero the latest villain to join the Flash’s rogue gallery. We also see Barry Allen / The Flash in the Hall of Justice recruiting some of our favorite Arrowverse superheroes to help against an incoming alien threat.

Some heroes/characters returning for the crossover include Tom Cavanagh as Professor Eobard Thawne/Reverse-Flash and Dr. Harrison Wells, Osric Chau as Dr. Ryan Choi, Chyler Leigh as Dr. Alex Danvers/Sentinel, Javicia Leslie as Ryan Wilder/Batwoman, Neal McDonough as Damien Darhk, Katherine McNamara as Mia Queen/Green Arrow, Brandon Routh as Dr. Ray Palmer/The Atom, Cress Williams as Jefferson Pierce/Black Lightning.

Each of these characters will be reprising their roles from other Arrowverse shows such as Arrow, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and Black Lightning. In the case of Cavanagh, he will be reprising his role from The Flash. Chau is also a special case as so far he has only appeared in the 2019-2020 Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event.

Interestingly there is not a representative from either Superman & Lois or Stargirl in this upcoming crossover. We know that John Wesley Shipp will be reprising his role as Jay Garrick / The Flash, however, Stargirl still has yet to make a major appearance in another Arrowverse show. It would have been really cool to have seen some of the Earth 2 characters make their way over in this crossover.

As for Superman & Lois that is a real mystery. The show has already taken many steps to try and distance itself from the other Arrowverse shows, despite John Diggle making an appearance in an episode. So it is currently unclear whether or not The CW/Berlanti Productions want Superman & Lois to be its own thing or still part of the greater universe.

Will The Flash: Armageddon Finally Introduce the Justice League?

Fan-made Image

Elements of the Justice League have already been introduced in the Arrowverse throughout its many crossovers over the years. This was especially the case when at the end of Crisis on Infinite Earths Barry Allen / The Flash formed an unnamed team that met at the Hall of Justice which is one of the League’s bases of operations in the comics.

However, in this crossover, most of the major members are missing besides The Flash, Black Lightning, Green Arrow (Mia Smoke replacing Oliver Queen), and Batwoman (Ryan Wilder replacing Kate Kane).

This crossover does add the opportunity to add new members to this team, however, it is sad to see that most of the founding members will not be returning.

I think it is definitely time to finally fully establish the Justice League in the Arrowverse. This franchise has been going on for 10 years now so it’s well past time to officially introduce this team of characters in the series’.
