Super Bowl Sunday offered a lot of excitement this year, and while the Rams and Bengals were great and all, some of us were getting pumped up for entirely different reasons. Marvel Studios released a 30-second teaser for Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness during the game, along with a full trailer online.
If you’re anything like me, then you snuck away to a private corner for 2 1/2 minutes to bathe your eyes in the glory of the multiverse. And if you didn’t? Well, that’s why your buddy jumped off the couch and went missing during the first quarter.
The trailer was fantastic, and showcased a wild ride of action, fantastic cinematography, and horror elements that is sure to spawn a thousand Youtube breakdowns over the next couple weeks. It featured more than a few surprises, including…yes, you heard it right…Patrick Stewart back as Professor X!
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Official Trailer
But Charles Xavier wasn’t the only character teased yesterday. A newly released poster also has more hidden details for eagle-eyed fans…
CAPTAIN CARTER CONFIRMED TO RETURN IN DOCTOR STRANGE 2
The poster shows Dr. Strange in front of the iconic window of the Sanctum Sanctorum, which is shattering all around him, depicting the shattering of the multiverse that will be happening in this film. The imagery is very similar to what we saw in the animated What If…? show, and it isn’t the only call-back that we see in this poster.
In the shards of glass, we can see various close-ups of the faces of the characters in this movie…both the ones that we are familiar with, and their variants. Among them are Dr. Strange, Wong, America Chavez, Scarlet Witch, and Rachel McAdam’s Christine Palmer. But hidden among those flying shards is a tease that’s sure to get everyone excited…
That’s right…that is the shield of Peggy Carter from the What If… show!
The shield can just barely be seen in the bottom right corner of the poster, confirming something that’s been rumored for some time. Captain Carter is back, and will presumably be played once again by Hayley Atwell, who will be reprising the role she played in the Captain America trilogy…although this time, she’ll be suited up as the live-action variant from the animated What If series, who took the super-soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers.
Carter’s potential appearance in this film lines up with some massive plot leaks that we’ve been hearing about over the last couple months. These leaks featured a large amount of spoiler-filled details about the film, as well as pre-vis concept art that teased the return of Professor X…something that was also confirmed by yesterday’s trailer. Because of the sheer amount of spoilers, we won’t put the details of those reports here in this article, but they’re out there if ya’ll want to dig!
For those who want to avoid spoilers, we won’t say anything more here, but expect Captain Carter to show up in this film alongside Professor Xavier and several other exciting characters that are sure to blow audience’s minds.
2 More Possible MCU Cameos From Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Poster
In addition to the shield of Captain Carter, some are pointing out a small nod to Marvel Zombies in the bottom-left of the poster. It looks like there could possibly be a zombi-fied version of Wanda Maximoff, though its hard to tell exactly. The Super Bowl teaser seemed to show a zombie version of Doctor Strange as well, so it’s safe to say that zombies will be appearing in this movie (another major connection to the What If...? series).

And here’s where things start to get really crazy. Some fans are saying that they’ve spotted Deadpool in this poster as well…
I’m not convinced that this is actually Deadpool, but crazier things have happened. Whether this blurry image is a tease of the Merc With a Mouth or not, it certainly isn’t outside the realm of possibility that Ryan Reynolds will show up in this movie. In fact, there’s a very good chance of it.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness seems to be the movie that will truly introduce the mutants into the MCU once and for all. Whether those mutants will come directly from the Fox Universe, from the animated 90’s show, or from some other variant universe, we aren’t entirely sure yet. But it’s safe to say that anything is possible, and it would be the perfect place to introduce Deadpool into the MCU…literally yanking him out of his universe and into our own.
