Could it be that the herald of Galactus, Silver Surfer, in coming to the MCU?
Marvel Studios has recently wrapped filming on The Marvels, and a new casting leak may have just revealed some connections to the appearance of the Silver Surfer!
The leak comes to us via One Take News, who exclusively revealed back in October that the film was looking to cast a “Scientist Friend” in a minor role. Now, they’ve potentially discovered a casting leak that would verify that scoop, and not only does it give us more details on the character, but it also may reveal the actor who’s playing him.

One Take News discovered actor Colin Stoneley’s resume on Mandy.com where he was listed under the role of “Papp-Tonn, a Kree scientist.” This was later updated to just “Kree Scientist”, likely to avoid speculation about his future in the MCU. But that’s what we do here…we speculate! And while Papp-Tonn is not a major Marvel Comics character by any stretch of the imagination, his appearance in The Marvels just might mean that the Silver Surfer will be arriving soon in the MCU…
WHAT DOES PAPP-TONN MEAN FOR THE SILVER SURFER?
First of all, if any of your friends tell you they know who Papp-Tonn is, they’re full of bologna. The character has only ever appeared in one comic, Silver Surfer Vol.3 #8. In that issue, the Kree Empire captured the Silver Surfer and assigned Papp to experiment on his surfboard…and that’s it.
He checks out the board, maybe gives it a little bit of board wax, and is literally never seen again. We don’t know anything about him except that he is bald, blue, has wicked facial hair, and is probably into surfing. Or maybe he’s just obeying orders because he just wants to get home to Mrs. Tonn and his three little Tonnlets.
The point is, he’s quite literally a nobody, and his role in The Marvels could be anything. But since the only noteworthy thing he has ever done is work on Silver Surfer’s board (sorry Papp, no offense to what was probably a long and illustrious career in investigating intergalactic watersports), this might just indicate that Marvel Studios has plans for the Silver Surfer to arrive in the near future.
WILL SILVER SURFER APPEAR IN THE MARVELS?
The Marvels will feature the return of Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) as she leads a team that will also include Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau. The movie has a lot of ground to cover. because in addition to being a direct sequel to Captain Marvel, it will also connect heavily to the Ms. Marvel and Secret Invasion Disney+ shows. Heck, it’s even bringing over Monica Rambeau from Wandavision!
Secret Invasion will particularly influence the events of this movie, as it will feature the invasion of the Skrulls…an alien race who has been friendly up to this point in the MCU. In the post credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home, it was revealed that Talos and the other Skrulls were working with Nick Fury to develop the Sentient Weapon Observation and Response Division…otherwise known as S.W.O.R.D. The Skrulls seemed to be in good standing with Fury, as the one-eyed director trusted him to handle things on Earth while he supervised the construction of a space station.
Secret Invasion is set to flip this relationship…revealing at least some of the Skrull race to be enemies. This will certainly create ripples for the entire MCU, but especially for The Marvels. The film will absolutely be dealing directly with the aftermath of the Skrull invasion, but there is also a good possibility that it will feature the Kree Empire, who were sworn enemies of the Skrulls. They also happen to be the villains from the first Captain Marvel movie who brainwashed Carol and tricked her into fighting for them.
What does all this mean for everyone’s favorite surf scientist? It means that Papp Tonn will probably not have a big role. He’s probably not going to suit up and save the world alongside Carol Danvers. He’ll probably just be a simple scientist who works for the Kree. But since the casting rumor listed him as “Scientist Friend”, it’s also quite possible that he could be a human or Skrull scientist working with Carol at S.W.O.R.D… maybe even on that space station we saw Nick Fury on.
Marvel changes the backstories of characters all the time for their movies, so this would be no surprise at all.
Either way, this is a good indication that we will be seeing the Silver Surfer soon in the MCU.
And if the Silver Surfer is coming, that can only mean one thing: GALACTUS!
The Marvels will release on Feb 17th, 2023. What are your theories about the film? Let us know in the comments below!
