We are now less than a month away from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and tickets have just gone on sale! Now director Sam Raimi has given viewers a sneak peek at America Chavez who is primed to make her MCU debut!
Fans are eagerly awaiting the next chapter in the story of the Sorcerer Supreme, but they are equally excited for the vast amount of new and returning characters that are rumored to be in the film. This includes include Wong (Benedict Wong), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams), and Baron Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor).

In addition to that, there been countless rumors about who else could be showing up as the members of the Illuminati, including a Tony Stark variant played by Tom Cruise, a variant of Mr. Fantastic played by Ioan Gruffund from the Fox films, a Maria Rambeau variant of Captain Marvel played by Lashana Lynch, a Black Panther played by Michael B. Jordan, Captain Carter from the What If…? series, and several others.
But on top of that juicy character list, we also know that America Chavez will be making her MCU debut in Multiverse of Madness, played by actress Xochitl Gomez.
In a recent interview with Fandango, director Sam Raimi opened up about her origin story in the movie, confirming that she is, in fact, from another universe:
“Well, she adds an exciting spirit of youth. She’s a newcomer to her powers and to our world. She actually comes from another universe. I think she brings a sense of lightness and youth. Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange can be a very egotistical and stuffy character, a know-it-all. She just flies in the face of that. She doesn’t really have respect for him originally. She sees right through the fronts that he puts up. She’s much more down to earth and one of us, and she doesn’t take his attitude. I don’t think he likes that at first. So, she creates a contrast.”
WHO IS AMERICA CHAVEZ?
In the comics, America Chavez was born in an alternate universe outside of time known as the Utopian Parallel. There, she was raised by her two mothers in the presence of a powerful creature known as the Demiurge. When her world underwent a cataclysmic destroyed, her mothers sacrificed themselves to save her, and she was set adrift in the multiverse, traveling through various different realities and eventually taking on the moniker of Miss America.
America Chavez’s powers include super strength, durability, and speed, as well as the power of flight. But most interestingly, she is able to kick open star-shaped holes in the fabric of reality, which allows her to travel the multiverse at will. Based off of Raimi’s comments and what we’ve seen in the trailers for Multiverse of Madness, it appears that the film will be following in the paths of the comics in how they depict her origin and power set.

So how will these powers factor into the movie?
Well, there are a lot of spoilers and leaks out there that we won’t get into in this article. But suffice to say, her ability to travel between realities is a very rare one amongst the MCU heroes, and there are plenty of characters out there who would desire such an ability…for either good or evil…
