Levi Miller has joined the cast of Kraven the Hunter and, though his role is unconfirmed, he is thought to be playing a younger version of the protagonist.

Sony has plans to expand the Marvel Universe with spin-off movies for characters from the Spider-Man franchise, and Kraven is therefore stepping up to the plate.

After two Venom movies and Morbius, it appears that we will be seeing another member of Spidey’s rogues’ gallery in action. This time, Kraven the Hunter will be taking the spotlight.

He is a Marvel supervillain eager to hunt down the deadliest game. He debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man #15, and since then he was a frequent enemy of the titular hero. Real name Sergei Kravinoff, Kraven hailed from an aristocratic family who immigrated to the United States following the February Revolution and the collapse of Russian nobility. His father abused Sergei along with his half-brother Dmitri, who would later become the first supervillain of Spider-Man, Chameleon. After Sergei’s father’s death, his mother was placed in an asylum where she took her own life.

Cravin’ for Kraven the Hunter

As an adult, Sergei traveled around the world and discovered his skill as a big game hunter. Despite carrying a vast array of weapons, he favors hand-to-hand combat when making his kills. He has enhanced physical strength, agility, and longevity thanks to special herbal potions, allowing him to maintain peak condition even in advanced age. Having killed every animal on the planet and haunted by his late mother’s spider-infested asylum, he views Spider-Man as a thrilling challenge.

After a series of defeats, Kraven joined the infamous villain team known as The Sinister Six, with the other members being Doctor Octopus, Vulture, Electro, Mysterio, and Sandman.

Kraven the Hunter is set for a theatrical release on 13 January 2023, with J. C. Chandor directing the feature and Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the title character, with Arthur Marcum, Matthew Holloway, and Richard Wenk writing the screenplay. Specific details of the plot are yet to be announced, filming is currently in progress in London. Car chase sequences are confirmed via snippets of set footage posted on Twitter.

Ever since the post-credits teaser in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Sony Pictures had plans to make a movie starring the much-maligned character. Despite mixed-to-negative reviews, the financial success of Venom, its sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and Morbius help Sony’s aim to expand the Spider-Man Universe with the production of the upcoming Hunter movie.

Miller as Young Kraven???

Levi Miller has joined the cast of Kraven the Hunter. He is known for starring in movies such as Pan, Better Watch Out, A Wrinkle in Time, American Exit, and Streamline. Although his role is unconfirmed as of writing, being one of the younger members of the cast, he may be playing a younger Kraven. If this is the case, then it could be that the upcoming movie will reveal more of Sergei’s backstory and motivations.

With Fred Hechinger as Chameleon, there is also the possible opportunity to see more details of the siblings’ relationship. Just as the Venom movies and Morbius have done with their respective lead characters, the addition of Kraven’s backstory may hint at his journey from hero to villain. Besides Taylor-Johnson, Hechinger, and Miller, other confirmed cast members include Alessandro Nivola, Christopher Abbott, Russell Crowe, and Ariana DeBose. More details about Kraven the Hunter are to be announced.

What are your thoughts on Levi Miller joining the cast? Any hopes for Kraven the Hunter succeeding in his movie, which is set to premiere on January 13 of 2023? How do you think the movie will handle Kraven’s story and character development?
