The Impossible Mission Force is back for the next installment of the Mission Impossible film series. The official teaser trailer has finally arrived online for the return of Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt in Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.

The franchise might be nearing its 60th anniversary, and the film series first debuted 26 years ago with 1996’s Mission Impossible, but you just can’t keep a good spy like Ethan Hunt back from fighting the good fight. You can check out the first action-packed teaser trailer below:

ETHAN HUNT RETURNS IN MISSION IMPOSSIBLE DEAD RECKONING PART ONE

Notable for the teaser trailer, the only dialogue is spoken by the returning Henry Czerny, who was the IMF Director in the original 1996 movie. Czerny is back in this film as Kittridge, and he appears to be at odds with Ethan Hunt once again. However, Kittridge’s lines appear to have taken on a more sinister, antagonistic tone. Kittridge remarks to Hunt in the only spoken words in the trailer, “This is our chance to control the truth, the concepts of right and wrong for everyone for centuries to come. You’re fighting to save an ideal that doesn’t exist. Never did. You need to pick a side.”

Well, one doubts that Ethan Hunt is going to respond well to Kittridge’s ultimatum. He never does. It also begs the question if Kittridge is finally going to see Hunt “very upset?”

The Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One teaser trailer does not offer a great sense of what is happening with the plot, but it looks like there is going to be a lot of high-takes, high-scale action, and thrills. Besides Cruise as Ethan Hunt and Czerny as Kittridge, Simon Pegg is back as Benji Dunn, Ving Rhames returns as Luther Stickell, Rebecca Ferguson returns as Ilsa Faust, and Vanessa Kirby is back as the White Widow. There’s also quite a bit of Hayley Atwell’s character, credited as Grace, in the teaser.

Other new characters who appear in the trailer include the ones portrayed by Shea Whigham (Kong: Skull Island, Death Note), Pom Klementieff (Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame), and Esai Morales (Titans, La Bamba).

The trailer has a lot of quick cuts, but notably, there looks to be an insane insane sequence with a train derailing over a bridge, and Cruise’s latest insane stunt where he runs a motorcycle off of a giant cliff into a freefall dive in the air. It looks like there is even a callback to Ethan Hunt’s penchant for magic tricks in the first movie. Cruise might be nearing 60, but he’s not showing any signs of slowing down, and the action looks bigger and better than ever.

The film has had quite the road to release after many delays and starts and stops due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, there’s finally a light at the end of the tunnel with this teaser trailer’s release.

Mission Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One

Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One finally arrives in theaters on Jul. 14, 2023. The next installment, Dead Reckoning Part Two, is due out on Jun. 28, 2024. Christopher McQuarrie is back as writer and director of both films. But what did you think of the new teaser trailer? Can July not come fast enough for the new sequel?
