Earth-838 Black Bolt

Earth-838’s Blackagar Boltagon was the Inhuman King and a member of The Illuminati in this reality. As one of the strongest characters in Marvel Comics as well as being the leader of The Inhumans, his membership on this team makes a lot of sense, not to mention the fact he is a tenured member in the source material. Unfortunately, his screen time was limited, as he would be the first to fall in battle against The Scarlet Witch during her assault on The Illuminati. His character would have his mouth erased, causing him to panic and blow his own bins out.

After his appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, fans have wondered if Mount’s Black Bolt could return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The way we see it, he could return in one of two ways.

Mount As Earth-616 Black Bolt?

The first way he could return is if Marvel Studios decides to have Anson Mount portray the Earth-616 Variant of the character. As of now, Inhumans technically do not exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it appears the events of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Inhumans are not canon to this timeline. It is currently unknown if Ms. Marvel is an Inhuman or not in the MCU.

Kevin Feige could opt to reboot Inhumans to fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and with fan’s positive reaction to his portrayal of Blackagar Boltagon in the Doctor Strange sequel, it isn’t impossible. Many feel Anson Mount didn’t receive a proper opportunity to portray The Inhuman King, and after seeing him in all his cinematic glory, he could be coming to Earth-616.

The Return of Earth-838 Black Bolt?

The second way we think we could see his character return is Mount reprises his role as Earth-838 Black Bolt in a future Secret Wars project! While we do think there’s a chance Reed Richards from this reality might have managed to survive, we can’t say the same about Black Bolt. The Earth-838 Variant of The Inhuman King is certainly dead after facing off against The Scarlet Witch. Theoretically, he could be pulled from a different point in time prior to turning his own brain to mush. This version of the character has what fans say is among the best adaptations of a comic book costume, and many would love to see this look again.

We could even see the ABC’s Inhumans Variant of the character in a potential Secret Wars project to further establish that the events of that series are not canon. It’d be very interesting to see the Inhumans Black Bolt meet his Earth-838 Variant, and potentially an Earth-616 Variant.

The creative heads at Marvel Studios must have noticed the positive reception to the character, being one of the most talked about aspects of the Doctor Strange sequel. It seems like a no-brainer (too soon?) to bring him back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

We at The Illuminerdi certainly hope to see Anson Mount reprise his role as Black Bolt in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after his appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now streaming on Disney+. Do you think we will see him reprise the role in the future? Let us know in the comments and on our Twitter
