Get A Detailed Look At the MODOK Funko Pop For Ant-Man 3!

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quatuamania feels like a blend of marvel magic, a dash of narrative juxtaposition, a hint of Star Trek, and a little sprinkle of the Wizard Of Oz. However, the marketing, most notably the trailers, does seem a little tilter and gives off the impression that a few misdirects could be in for the store for critics and fans alike.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania looks like a blend of Marvel magic, a dash of narrative juxtaposition, a hint of Star Trek, and a little sprinkle of The Wizard Of Oz. However, the marketing, most notably the trailers, does seem a little tilter and gives off the impression that a few misdirects could be in for the store for critics and fans alike. Ever since the first footage of the film was revealed back at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, fans have been wondering about the MCU debut of the longtime Avengers villain, MODOK, in the film.

As of now, plot details are still under wraps, but the trailers have begun to shed some clarity on where the Ant-Man threequel could see our heroes travel. However, there is the expectation that the film will likely feature the MCU debut of MODOK, and an image has surfaced online revealing what appears to be the Funko Pop Vinyl based on MODOK’s appearance in the film appeared online from Twitter user Cris Parker:

From the image provided above, we have official confirmation of MODOK’s MCU design. It does look to be replicated from the panels to the silver screen quite well. The iconic purple and gold color scheme and the enormous iconic face can be noticed upon first viewing by anyone.

At the same time, it seems maybe the surprise of who is playing MODOK is being covered by a mask because the reveal could be deemed as either a spoiler for the audience or a red herring. Whereas in the comics, animated series, or even the Marvel’s Avengers video game, MODOK’s face is always visible in one way or another. In the Funko Pop image, MODOK’s face looks more metal and robotic, like his real face and identity are being hidden.

Modok in Marvel's Avengers

It’s simple to notice and pick up on the similarities between the Ant-Man sequel and The Wizard of Oz, with the family being dragged into the Quantum Realm or the trailer song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” by Elton John and how the lyrics correlate to the unfolding story. In another aspect, could the character and role of Kang The Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majors, be the Wizard of Oz, or a shadowy figure pulling the strings, while Ant-Man and Wasp are sent on a mission to save Cassie similar to how the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion go to save Dorothy?

Another fragment that feels left out of the unfolding mystery is the arrival of one character for which fans have been waiting quite a while for in MODOK. And through some previous internet leaks, the first appearance of a significant character and how the MCU will tackle one of the Avenger’s greatest villains can be seen.

HOW DOES MODOK FIT INTO ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA AND THE MCU?

Now, one question that does remain after taking a closer look at the MCU’s interpretation is where the character of MODOK fits in the overarching narrative of Ant-Man 3? Thus far, no officially released concept art, trailers, or marketing materials have shown the villain.

Could MODOK be playing the Wicked Witch of this story, and the Ruby Slippers, in this case, is Kang’s Time Chair, following The Wizard of Oz similarities and putting the pieces together while following the trail of breadcrumbs and easter eggs?

Again, all grand theories at this moment, but another question remains: Why are MODOK and Kang residing in the Quantum Realm anyway? When we met one of Kang’s variants in Loki, Sylvie killed him, the one called Who Remains. Then, the TVA was changed to reflect the change in the timeline, and it felt that Kang was now head of the TVA, but could it have been a different variant because if Kang is in Quantumania, could he already be the ruler of Chronopolis instead of the TVA?

Transitioning to a different visual upgrade from the leaked lot of Funko Pops, a first-hand closer look at Jonathan Major’s Kang The Conqueror looks comic accurate and feels like a show stealer. In addition, Kang, the updated Ant-Man and Wasp suits were also shown, and they look to be improved color-wise. That said, nothing was shown depicting Cassie’s suit, besides her quick team-up shot during the latest trailer.

Many already know that Cassie will be suiting up as Stature and could begin to crack the door open for a possible Young Avengers MCU debut down the line. However, nothing is confirmed yet with an MCU version of the Young Avengers at this time.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania is set to hit theaters Feb. 17, 2023 and kick off Phase 5 of the MCU.
