Star Wars is gearing up to have a monster of a year, with The Bad Batch, The Mandalorian, Skeleton Crew, and Ahsoka all hitting Disney+ in 2023. Needless to say, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have their hands full as they continue ushering in a new era for the global franchise.

According to a new rumor from Daniel Richtman, the creative duo is adding another series to their long list of Star Wars projects.

STAR WARS COULD ADD ANOTHER SHOW TO ITS JAM-PACKED GALAXY

According to Richtman’s report (via SFF Gazette), Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau are already hard at work on another, brand-new Star Wars Disney+ television show. The report doesn’t suggest what the show will focus on, but it’s in the early stages of production. However, we could be looking at another spinoff of The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, or just a completely new idea.

Richtman’s report does include a codename for the series, “Ghost Track 17,” but that more than likely has nothing to do with the subject of the show. If the rumor turns out to be accurate, Favreau and Filoni could look to Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023 to make an official announcement on the upcoming project.

Favreau and Filoni have worked together on all the live-action Star Wars projects since the Disney+ era of the franchise began. Favreau’s priorities seem to mainly focus on The Mandalorian, while Filoni prioritized the live-action Ahsoka series and the animation department.

Assuming the creative duo continues their current trend, one would expect the new mystery show to take place in the newly-established Mandalorian time period, which is set after The Return of the Jedi and the fall of the Empire. It seems the two Star Wars legends want to fully flesh out the post-Return of the Jedi pre-The Force Awakens period in the franchise’s history.

Regardless of what they decide to do with the rumored show, Star Wars fans are more than happy to have Favreau and Filoni leading the way for the franchise. For now, it appears the future of Star Wars is in good hands.

THE FUTURE OF STAR WARS IS IN GOOD HANDS

Following the less-than-ideal conclusion of the Skywalker Saga with Star Wars: Episode 9 – The Rise of Skywalker, the future of the franchise looked grim. However, everything changed once The Mandalorian hit Disney+ in the fall of 2019.

The brainchild of Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni revitalized the franchise, bringing in a roster of new and returning characters for the space western. The Mandalorian’s success proved that the franchise still had more to offer, and the creative duo quickly began working on several spinoffs.

Since then, Favreau and Filoni have created two seasons of The Mandalorian and a spinoff, The Book of Boba Fett. Lucasfilm announced a second spinoff, Rangers of the New Republic, but they quickly axed the show after firing actress Gina Carano over insensitive social media posts. Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew later joined the roster of Disney+ shows, and both premiere on the streaming service this year, along with The Mandalorian Season 3.

Many fans hope for an eventual crossover for all of these shows taking place at the same time. Favreau alluded to that possibility at Star Wars Celebration, telling Steele Wars Ahsoka and Mando Season 3 start to “get deeper into characters that have connections with other characters of importance.”

It’ll be interesting to see what Favreau and Filoni have planned for their corner of the Star Wars universe, and the rumored series only adds to that excitement. For now, we’ll have to wait until The Mandalorian Season 3 hits Disney+ on March 1, 2023.
