JENTRY CHAU VS THE UNDERWORLD

Netflix announces a new magical animated series, Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld, from Echo Wu and Executive Producers Ali Wong and Aron Eli Coleite.

Netflix has announced a new animated series, Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld, from first-time show-runner Echo Wu, and executive producers Ali Wong and Aron Eli Coleite. The series follows Jentry Chau, a Chinese-American teen living in a small Texas town, who learns that a demon king is hunting her for the supernatural powers she’s been trying to hide her whole life. Jentry must fight an entire underworld’s worth of monsters while still dealing with the horrors of being a teenager in high school. Luckily, she has the help of her weapons expert great-aunt and a millennia-old Jiangshi (Chinese hopping vampire).

Jentry will be played by Ali Wong, who is also an executive producer and will soon be seen on her other Netflix series Beef. She will start alongside Bowen Yan, Lori Tan Chinn, Lucy Liu, Jimmy O. Yang, Sheng Wang, and Woosung Kim. This eclectic cast of Asian excellence is steeped in comedic brilliance. Judging by the animation cel provided, the series will be filled with supernatural action and magical mayhem. Judging by the cast, it is going to be gut-busting and hilarious.

The series will be executive produced by show-runner Echo Wu, Ali Wong, who also stars as the series lead, and Aron Eli Coleite. The animation will be produced by Titmouse Studio. Titmouse is famous for their work on series like The Legend of Vox Machina, The Boys Presents Diabolical, to name a few. Producers from Titmouse include: Chris Prynoski (The Legend of Vox Machina), Shannon Prynoski (Fairfax), Antonio Canobbio (Arlo the Alligator Boy)  and Ben Kalina (Big Mouth) will also executive produce.

With all of the comedy power, the animation power, and the supernatural and horror chops from the cast, producers, and studio, the series is shaping up to be an excitingly spooky and hilarious animated series that should not be missed.

Unfortunately, that is all we know about the series so far. We know there’s an amazing cast, Chinese cultural influence, a spooky/horror element, and that it will benefit from the boundless medium of animation. They have already staffed top-tier talent with experience in successfully achieving greatness in all of those aspects. The only downside is that the Netflix page has it rated as TV-PG, which means it is likely going to be skewed toward a younger audience. This does tamper with expectations of the visuals of the series’ horror element. But even still, the series is sure to be highly anticipated.

No release date or time frame has been provided for Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld yet. However, you can set a reminder on Netflix now.
